Town reached their first and only Cup Final of the year with a 2 – 0 convincing win over Sawbridgeworth Town making it 3 – 1 on aggregate. It was very much an end to end game With Lee Smith opening well with a header into the arms of O’Neill the keeper. Early on Rudi Hall put Lee Smith in on goal only for it to be headed away by a defender. Steve Baldwin almost in a 1 on 1 with the keeper only to be stopped by past Town player Mark Pearcey. On 17 minutes Matty Negus took a corner and Dean Green in his new midfield role came up unmarked and nailed a lovely header 1 – 0. On 21 minutes Lee Smith went for goal of the season when he beautifully chipped O’Neill. Town fans erupted 2 – 0. Time after time Lee Smith was having shots saved by O’Neil. At the other end not to be outdone Chopper was saving Town from the Sawbo shots. Pearcey in frustration kicked the ball out of the ground and appeared to be booked for his trouble. Matty Negus found himself in a 1 on 1 with O’Neill only to try to chip him and yes it was an easy catch for the keeper. Dean Green let rip with a 35 yard belter which was stopped by O’Neill. Town fans were much more content by half time.

Second half Town appeared content to bide their time waiting for Sawbo to come out so they could nip in and catch them on the break. Sawbo responded with the offside trap on numerous occasions. Town players were flicking balls back wards and forwards in great one twos. Paul Campbell and Lee Smith linking up particularly well. Lee Smith and Dean Nyman shooting wide. Chopper saving shots at the other end. Adam Gant tracked back to win crucial balls in the box. Russell Penn exciting to watch whether in attack or defence.

Lee Smith brought down on the edge of the box and Hall Freekick was headed just wide. Steve Baldwin shot just wide. Lee Smith off and replaced by Asa Pamplin. Graeme Hall off and replaced by Stuart Snowden. Town were building position and attacks beautifully with only final shots leaving a bit to be desired. Asa Pamplin went to take a ball down to volley it only to get a kick in the face. A Paul Campbell shot was saved by O’Neill. David Allen came on for Dean Nyman having a kiss and cuddle on the touchline as they changed the guard. Down Southport, don’t get too excited 5am eh!

David Allen was in on goal only to go down awkwardly looking for all the world as being in need of a stretcher but somehow he didn’t just manage to walk off but play on. David will find out tomorrow the wisdom of such a move I’m sure! Town fans appealed for a Penalty for the David Allen challenge but nothing doing! So 2 – 0 it was!

Town Fans contented themselves with singing “Barkingside, we are the famous Enfield Town and we are going to Barkingside”

You forgot to mention that decision to give Steve Baldwin offside when he chipped the ball over the defender and collected the ball himself! Words fail me.

Much better team performance today. Here's looking towards Tuesday.

ESL rules football Andy! That is rule number well I can't remember exactly but roughly it goes along the lines of too flash for his own good so give him offside! Steve has been a revelation this season. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/applaus.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/applaus.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/applaus.gif" alt="" />

Congrats to you lot. I thought you were teh better team on the day and deserved to go through. We are all a bit down as I don't think we put the ball or your team under enough pressure during the 90 mins. The first goal was a free header but I felt it was down to me as I got under the ball and was bumped by my own defender as I was backing into it. Pissed me off big time. All credit to your guys though as ever Smith up front is a handful and I always enjoy playing against him. (Apart from his goal)which for the record he couldn't have hit better.

Should it have been a penalty? I have seen them given..

Jnr - Did I win the 50/50 then? If not...why not?

I have to say that, whilst I want to see Town get promoted, if we do go up, I will miss the likes of Sawbo. We have had some great tussles over the last four years and I wish the club every success for the future.

Shaun, thanks for that analysis. While I thought it was a pretty good Town performance, it also struck me as a pretty lacklustre 90 minutes from Sawbo which as we is something you couldn't be accused of over the last few seasons. What's up?
