Just for the record I have attended every home game for three years and I also take out Board sponsorship around the ground. I think it qualifies me to comment on the clubs approach to marketing even if you don't agree with me. First game of the season we had 1,200 crowd, and in the penultimate game which we needed to win we had 510....... so we have two problems.....getting people through the gates and then keeping them. I just think that we miss a lot of tricks.

As for supporters handing out leaflets thats a small club mentality. We pay full price at the gate and its is down to the staff at the club to deliver the marketing strategy not the supporters.

Cheers Ian, all in hand now and next season i think we'll adopt a few tactics around the town.

Anybody that spends their hard earned cash watching a football club that they support is greatly appreciated and it also earns them the right to criticize when things go wrong.

Someone like yourself that sponsors a club through their business etc is a different matter. Whatever the size of the company or the amount of funding that company gives means that that person truly cares about that club. This is you !!

But these are your comments from your earlier post:

The clubs marketing is woeful. Why aren't we in the high street Saturday mornings promoting the games and giving free tickest to the local youth football leagues ? 100 kids with free tickets all bringing their Dad's produces 200 on the gate. Promotion and Marketing at CIFC are a joke.

I believe i answered your question to this post earlier.

I think you have contradicted yourself with this. How do we promote games by not handing things out ? Drag them down the high street?

Of course we had 1200 people at the first home game, it was new, different and off the back of a 0-0 draw with a former football league club infront of 7500 people.

Results faltered and the supporters that expected us to storm the league as we had done in the past disappeared.

Unfortunately as you have not registered on the site leaving your name etc. We dont know who you are or how much of a contribution you have made to the club in the last few years.

As has been said by Jeff, Glenn, Keith and myself, this season has been a massive learning curve both on and off the field. We were bound to get things wrong and probably have.

We must know who you are from your excellent financial support over the last few years, so why not talk to us face to face rather than air your grievances in public. Both myself and Keith are approachable and are only happy to listen to ideas to promote our club further.

May I make suggestion that may help improve attendances.

I do realise that the friendlies before the season start are a source of income for the club. B ut in the long term would it not be better to forego the gate money on these friendlies and use them as a showcase for the coming season eg 'This is what is on offer' it may well attract a number of long term supporters.

In other words, lose a little to gain more, I am sure that a lot of potential supporters cant be arsed to pay for friendlies, even at a reduced rate!!

Southend have put up poster in many of the Shop windows in the High Street in South Benfleet. Why don't we ask the shopkeepers and stop Southend milking our patch?

I am not airing a grievence, just engaging in the debate about why so few people attend Canvey games and the contribution marketing makes to this. There is no personal criticism intended but I do feel that the club like Canvey has to keep developing innovative and creative approaches to attracting supporters. Football clubs seem to think that they are not like other businesses who have to package a product and in this case a leisure expereince. Instead they seem to think that people should come and watch regardless of the quality of the product, surroundings, facilities and entrance fee. Modern consumers don't behave like that unless they are part of the 400 or so 'hard core' who will always frequent Park Lane.

I didn't contradict myself over the leaflets, I think this should be done but its not down to the supporters, its part of the marketing plan which needs to implemented by the club.

There are many things about watching Canvey that I love. It is much more of a 'real football' expereince and maybe more could be made of that. However the down side is its expensive and frankly the facilites are poor.

I want to see Park Lane packed week in and week out and as I say this is a forum to exchange views, opinions and ideas and thats what I am doing. Perhaps now enough has been said and we should change the subject !
