510! You're 'avin a laugh!

What a f*****g piss take. Fair enough, my guess is only 750 - 800, but 510!!! I don't know if they are more greedy or just plain f*****g stupid!

Congrats to the lads on a solid performance and quality goal.

Here's to next season ... and a new attendance 'adder-upper' who can count!

maybe they don't include the cardboard cutouts...didn't include me as I couldn't make it today, well done to the team, sounds from Yellow's report as if everybody was up for it. Bit concerned there were no defenders on the bench, are they all injured ? Let's hope we can win at least one of our last two games (greedy I know). Just thankful it won't come down to FGR away on the last day (barring disasters/miracles depending on your viewpoint).

510 - whoever is responsible for announcing that well you need shooting cos you know as we all do it was a couple of hundred more. You may be getting told what to declare by someone in a higher position but this happens every game and makes us a laughing stock to the rest of the country. Its about time the truth was told, we were nearly caught out before when we played Dover, - come on Canvey Island Football Club, we're in the proper league now, lets do things right and not just announce figures for the "vatman" - - - sort it and get it right for next season.

I do not know why!! but there must be a very good reason that there was only 510 supporters there today.

Maybe kids for a quid do not count!

Maybe all concessions count as a 1/2!

Maybe its a tax fiddle!

Maybe we looked more than we were!(being a bit chubby that happens to me sometimes).

Maybe we should just keep quite and let the people who run the club run it, and the people who support the club support it.

I would not be offended if I opened my paper tommorrow and read there were 11 people at the game as long as I was one of those 11.

And stimmo had told the fans that he was putting weakened sides out for rest of season with nothing to play for now surprised fans turn up for reserve game!!But concidering you need as much help as possable 510 thats shocking I know we dont get great gates but with nothing to play for the fans still turn up where's your 12th man when you need them!strange with success comes fans when the [****!!****] hits it just a lonely few who are die hard enough to watch!!Best of luck!!

510 was spot on. There was virtually no away support (2 mini buses) and I have said before on here that there is a hardcore of 400ish fans and no more. The clubs marketing is woeful. Why aren't we in the high street Saturday mornings promoting the games and giving free tickest to the local youth football leagues ? 100 kids with free tickets all bringing their Dad's produces 200 on the gate. Promotion and Marketing at CIFC are a joke.

FAO Left Post.

At the start of this season I personally wrote to all local boys/girls clubs offering 2 free child places for every paying adult. The response from over 40 clubs contacted, all with a number of different age groups ? ONE

And even they didn't follow up the interest.

As for promotion and marketing.

1. we have issued free tickets, given away shirts,Taken trophies and players to schools for pictures etc. hoping that the kids will get their parents to come. Offered the free bus around the island, all to little or no avail.

2. Excellent coverage of the club on Classic Gold Breeze virtually every day. Evening echo, phoneline, website, all matches sponsored by local businesses. What more do you think we can do as a part time club?

Incidentally, Classic Gold Breeze are doing the drivetime show live from Park Lane at tomorrows game (3-7pm). Anyone wanting to come down early tomorrow and take part in the show is welcomed by the presenter, David Baker.

I think the Joke statement is a bit strong.

Wayno

There have been a lot of unregistered people slagging off the club, particularly over the last couple of weeks.

I for one support everything the club is doing and I am as pleased as punch to be supporting one of the fastest developing clubs in the world.

Left post said "Why arent we in the high street saturday mornings" I am sure I could run him of a couple of hundred leaflets so he can stand outside the shops on saturday if thats what he wants to do.

LAST POST

How can I contact you to arrange it.

The leaflet idea is another that has been mentioned already and both myself and Chris G have asked questions as to where this can be done and if any special permission is needed to do this. ie council, police etc.

It is certainly something that can be introduced next season to try to boost the attendances. It would need a few willing volunteers to do it though.

With regards to the letter sent to the boys clubs, did the secretary at your club pass any of this info on to you MOB? Knowing how much your lads enjoy coming to the Lane i thought it would be ideal for you.

I have a feeling that either the secretaries didn't pass on the info to the respective managers or it was just down to the lack of interest in the parents bringing the Kids.

Either way i was suprised at the response as most were keen to be ballboys and i targetted the same clubs for both.

We ask every week after training who would like to go and almost every week we bring two or three.

I will be bringing two or three tomorrow and upto six on saturday.

On the odd occassion we have upto 12, its a bit hard to keep em all under control.

Why not give a couple away to the local youth clubs as a reward for some voluntary work in the community, not football clubs and see how it goes.

Have a look at this site

http://www.2smart.co.uk/

We gave the Police 500 wrist bands and they have really went down well.

Maybe 10 free tickets and a bit of a fuss made of the winners.

I have a contact with the Officer who runs it, send me a PM if you want to know more.

MOB,

If all the Anony's would contact you and me we could do a serious leaflet drop on Canvey and the local area in an attempt to convert our fringe supporters with discount's,easter eggs, free bus service etc.

At the end of the day Wayne has illustrated what efforts are made behind the scenes which are unrellenting but we have a small fanbase and this will only grow and develop with continued success.

We have no history as a team further back than 1992 as a Senior club with a band of supporters. As such we are very much in our infancy and our sensational climb up the pyramid has perhaps peaked for a while.

We must all take this survival in the Conference this year as a great acheivement and not a dissapointment at our lowly position.

Providing we maintain our Conference status i am sure our support will grow as the fringe support and the kids take on board what a gem we have on our doorstep in Canvey Island FC.

As league football becomes evermore expensive a saturday afternoon at the lane still represents great value and if we make the occasional cup run or TV appearence all well and good.

As for 510 that is not even relevant. The people of Canvey have shown they want the best possible football here, remember Tiverton,Brighton,Port Vale,Northhampton,Southend when Park Lane was bursting at the seams. Just be patient and Canvey will get it right. We are still the new kids on the block in amongst ten or so ex-league clubs.

Congrats' to Jeff,Glen & Boys for passing a massive test this year.

I think Chris and Wayne have said it all. Other than drag the miserable sods from their houses what more can be done? Maybe their like me old man and cant remember what non league footies all about. He came with me once to Canvey and we had such a barney over the way he slagged off the team and the way they played that I told him I didnt want him to go again!! He cant see past the Premiership (Chelski!)

I think we will grow and grow but everything takes time to perfect. We will get there.

Well done to all at the club for getting us where we are today. Without you Canvey Island FC would be dead and buried!!

Wayne/Chris,

Regarding the leaflets - if you get permission from the Knightswick center then you can hand them out both in and around that area - bere in mind that in Furtherwisk Road most of the pavement on the right hand side of the road is privately owned - so permission is only needed from the site owners.

AFAIK - as long as you do not cause an obstruction you are fine - I think techinically you have to keep moving if you are on a public footpath. If you are then you can't cause an onbstruction.
