winmx is pants, as is kazaa and although I can't suggest any alternatives as this is all HIGHLY illegal I suggest bit-torrents are the way to go. As for where to get them, you're on your own

A word of warning.......

 

I read a couple of weeks ago thet the first test-cases in Court were successful when people were prosecuted for doing this in contavention of the Performing Rights Act (?).

 

I know that Kazaa WAS one of the sites involved. The fines were substantial !

Last Time I Looked On Windows Media Player, Version 10 Was Only Available For Download By Microsoft XP Users, Is This Now Availabe For Windows 2000 Users Aswell ? I Would Check But I'm In School

There is a cheap (and apparently) legal source of downloads from a site in Russia. I don’t know its name however. Sorry.

 

Not sure I would be completely comfortable about giving my credit card details to a Russian company. You could find you’ve paid for several illegal eastern European immigrants to pop across the channel!

its called allofmp3.com, i have used it for a while after a recommendation. Its worked very well for me, no problems at all, although the english is a bit pidgin at times, and they can be a bit slow in getting some of the latest music. Vast selection of tracks though, plus once your signed up you can listen to full length samples before you buy. Good quality music, and VERY cheap too. Its done by file size, and a typical album will cost you 1 or 2 US$. So far ive spent around £15 and i have 21 albums downloaded, plus numerous single tracks.

Great value, and legit too. Well worth a look. (Make sure you click on 'English' in the top left corner though, or navigation could be a bit tricky!

It depends on your definition of legit. Yes it is legal. In Russia you can sell copyrighted material as long as you pay a “fee” to a copyright fund! However all the proceeds that allofmp3.com make, not a penny goes to the artists. So morally it is questionable.
