Riot at Letchworth? Eh?

So he was there! The football wasn't great for the neutral and I wonder whether he dozed off and dreamt it all?

Oh, by the way. Was he the "30 year old St Albans fan who was arrested and bailed to appear before Stevenage Magistrates on ....", by any chance? It must have been someone and it would appear that it wasn't EFMTFTV from his comments above.

[sigh] Do try to keep up Webbo. [sigh]

Now listen carefully.

The apparent work of fiction on the back page of this weeks Observer made reference to a 30 year old St Albans man having been bailed to appear before Stevenage Magistates Court on May the somethingorother. Certain people assumed that the intrepid front-line war correspondent was referring to EFMTFTV, a rumour having swept 3 Counties that he had been nicked on Tuesday evening. Upon his return to the City on Wednesday, EFMTFTV stated that he had not been cautioned, charged or anything else, and most certainly, had no reason to attend Court on said date.

Someone then suggested that Kate Adey, or whoever it is what writes the sports column for the Observer, might have been referring to a Woood fan, following an unrelated incident, in the article.

EFMTFTV then responded to the effect that the article said that it was a 'St Albans man' who had been bailed etc. and, therefore was unlikely to be a Woood fan.

Are you following this Webbo?

Anyway. Laz then came on and said that the place of residence of an individual does not automatically mean that the person concerned supports the football club from that town or, in this case, City. He gave you as an example of a person once living in the Woood who, at the time, was a closet Saintsfan. Err. That's it.

Anyway. Moving on. I caught a snip of what might be an interesting documentary on T.V. last night. It's called 'Footballers' Wives' and it's about, -well-, the wives of footballers. I wondered if the reporter from the Observer has anything to with the production. It did seem a little over the top at times, but then, I don't know anything about football.

Sources, Zealster, sources. These newshounds never reveal their sources.

He surely couldn't have invented the statement that a 30 year old St Albans man has been bailed and will appear before Stevenage Magistates Court on May the whateveritwas? I seem to recall that the Hertfordshire Police P.R. Department is based at Welwyn Garden City and I had assumed that Martin Bell or whoever it is what wrote the piece had telephoned them on Wednesday morning before filing his story.

Nostradamus knows more than he's letting on, in my view.

I should add that I picture that if one is at a police station and bailed to appear before Magistates at a later date, it would be pretty clear to the person concerned what was happening at the time. Not a lot of room for misunderstanding between the Station Sargant and the alleged miscreant, I would have thought. No real room for ambiguity.

Oh, by the way CZ. I recall from another thread that, in your view, it is entirely proper for the police to lock up a suspected terrorist and throw away the key without bothering with the formalities of defence, judge, jury etc. I had a different view. Have you had second thoughts?

Well there was a rumour that he was initially nicked on some sort of firearms charge allegedly, of course. I wondered whether it was an M16 carbine or the Uzi sub-machine gun much favoured by international terrorists, I believe.

It was a flare. There were political dignitaries present [super Mac to name but one], figures from the international business community [Gibbo etc.] etc. No-one is safe from the threat of international terrorism, Zealster. Even at a major sporting event like the Herts Senior Cup final.

I'll tell you what, CZ. I think we should just be grateful that EFMTFTV isn't sending postcards home from Guantanimo Bay. Or even worse, ferried by MI6 to your American friends in Grosvenor Square before being flown to a middle-eastern country where denial of basic human rights and torture of the vilest kind is used routinely in the interrogation of suspected terrorists. Personally, I'm not in favour of that sort of thing but I know that it sits quite comfortably within your political ideology.
