Anyone heard of a band called Geordie? This is what BBC Music have to say about them. No joke, apparently, St Albans City have very strong links with this band...

 

From the north-east of England, Brian Johnson (b. 5 October 1947, Newcastle, England; vocals), Victor Malcolm (guitar), Tom Hill (bass) and Brian Gibson (drums) started life as a poor man's Slade, originally calling themselves USA before adopting the more appropriate Geordie.

 

Their unconsciously professional style was based on the pop end of the hard rock spectrum, with a stage act that included an audience participation opus, the dialectal "Geordie's Lost His Liggy", which involved Johnson hoisting Malcolm onto his shoulders. After one single for Regal Zonophone Records, "Don't Do That", scraped the hit parade, they were signed by EMI Records, whose faith was justified when "All Because Of You', from 1973"s Hope You Like It, reached the UK Top 20.

 

Two lesser entries - "Can You Do It" and "Electric Lady" - followed, and the group's albums sold steadily. Geordie's power as a concert attraction outlasted this chart run, and when the going became difficult in the watershed year of 1976-77, the quartet signed off with Save The World - a consolidation rather than development of their derivative music.

 

They were remembered not for their hits, but as the alma mater of Johnson who, after a lean period in which he was heard in a vacuum cleaner commercial, replaced the late Bon Scott in AC/DC. His former bandmates reunited in 1982 to record No Sweat, before changing their name to Powerhouse.

Yep...All Because Of You was a "glam" classic. I have the best of Geordie knocking about at home...It's a budget CD...They were fairly basic really...I think you can draw a comparison between a early AC/DC and them!!!

Well, a certain Chairman of ours used to be the road manager, and I'm also wondering if there's any relation to the drummer there!!
