Paul Sykes

Recommended Posts

It would appear from the Folstone Invicta site that their striker, Paul Sykes collapsed and died tonight during the game against Margate.

This is dreadful news concerning a player extremely well known in Kent. I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to get onto the Folkstone forum to post our condolences, can someone else make an attempt on our behalf please.

Sort of puts things into perspective doesnt it?

I think somewhere else on the forum Alan W has suggested we have a collection for his family at the Burton game. I totally agree with that idea, does anyone else have any thoughts on the subject?

It is with sadness that i read about the tragic death of Paul Sykes, perhaps as a mark of respect for the lad, there could be a memorial game set up to raise money for his family, perhaps a game between a kent select side versus a premier league or championship side.I would like to know if anybody feels this is agood idea.

I'll admit never having seen Paul play - i remember him being mentioned on the dartford message board a year or 2 back and i have to admit i am thoroughly upset. I will be going to watch whatever testimonial is put in place for him and wherever it is. So upset, its just not right or fair.

It is certainly a sober event. It shows us how fragile life is even for those who exercise frequently. This was particularly true of Mark Vivien Foe as a professional footballer, but is certainly relevant to Paul Sykes as well. As has been said already, a collection is clearly the least we could do in the circumstances.
