Taken from Folkestones Offical Site... very sad news...

PAUL SYKES

It is with great sadness that I have to report the death of Invicta striker Paul Sykes. He collapsed about 30 minutes into tonights delayed kick-off match. Margate physio John Griffin tried to revive him whilst awaiting the ambulance, he was taken to William Harvey Hospital and was pronounced dead. Everybody is in shock here so more information will not become available until tomorow. Paul was well known to both sets of players having previously been a Margate player. Paul is going to be sadly missed.

Horrible news, I'm sure along with all other Slough fans, my thoughts go out to his family and the club at this time. News of such an incident is hard to take no matter whose club it involves.

Just out of interest Emma, what is the address of the official site as when I go to the one on Gary's list it doesn't mention it at all.

Knowing the close knit relationship we have with our own players one can only imagine how bad the Folkestone players and supporters are feeling this morning.

This is truly terrible and puts things into perspective that this is only a game, after all. My deepest sympathies go to his family and all who knew Paul.

Not much you can say when this happens.

Just that our thoughts are with family and friends at this time.

Also, just got this from the BBC:-

Football player dies after game

A football player died after collapsing on the pitch 30 minutes after kick-off on Tuesday night.

Paul Sykes, 28, was playing for Folkestone Invicta in the Kent senior cup semi-final against Margate.

Attempts to revive him failed and he was taken to William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, where he later died.

Police said the death was not suspicious, but the coroner would be informed. The club said the death had caused "great sadness".

A statement posted on the Folkestone Invicta website on Tuesday said: "Everybody is in shock here.

"Paul was well known to both sets of players having previously been a Margate player.

"He is going to be sadly missed."

Folkestone manager Neil Cugley told BBC Radio Kent: "He went running out of the penalty box and fell backwards.

"Everyone thought he was messing about because he didn't mind a bit of play-acting and messing about.

"It took people a few seconds to realise there was something very wrong.

"The ambulance was there within minutes, but when he got to hospital he was pronounced dead."
