Workmanlike performance from the Saints to win HSC in an intimidating atmosphere.

I heard the Woood fans were not particularly friendly!!!

I thought the game was abit flat, it just didn't feel like a cup final/"special" occasion. That wasn't helped with the gonads from Boreham Wood (apparently not regulars, just muppets who turn up for events like this). Anyway, the most important thing is that we won - brilliant!!! More cups next season please!

Hi Zag.

Yes 'flat' is a good word. That chap from the Herts Ad is going to struggle to get 'pulsating' into his match report unless he refers to the increasing numbers of the Hertfordhire constabulary's arrival during the game to ensure proper order among the Woood fans.

The Woood had half-a-dozen of their Yoof team on display as a number of the new 1st Team under new manager Andy Leese weren't eligible. And they clearly set out a defensive stall. Moran, and in particular Townley had a very good night. [Perhaps a Yoof system has its merits after all but that's another story for another day.]

We had too many players who could only deliver an 'ordinary' personal performance but it was always going to be enough. On nights like last night 'winning is the only thing', I guess and I'll settle for that.

Hi Zealster.

Hmmnnn.

There may be a difference between us, CZ, but I suspect that it is less dramatic than your post suggests. Without wishing to give any impression that I know anything about football, permit me to expand.

The team under the influence of Lord Lippiatt and Nick Roddis, to my eye, tries to play football. By that, I mean that it relies upon a passing game through the midfield and players of talent appear to be encouraged to use it. The days of 'Route 1' football and the big hoof are behind us, thank goodness.

Last night, we tried to play that way. As I said several key players put in an ordinary performance and we were up against a side who were always looking to soak up pressure and rely upon the counter attack throughout the game. On that basis, it was never going to be a spectacle.

My comment about winning being the only thing was intended to relate to a County Senior Cup final, against the backdrop of a season which looked likely to come under the category of an unmitigated disaster.

There's a young chap believed by some to be the leader of EFM Junior branch who stood behind the Woood goal throughout each half despite the tauntings of the morons from Woood. 'Ils ne passent pas" he was heard to state on more than one occasion. 'No surrender, you uncouth rabble from Outer London' was an aside, I gather. 'Act your age rather than your shoe size' was a somewhat hackneyed retort when the intimidation was at its height.

The intimidators were clearly intimidated.

Did he rush off to Gibbo in fear of his life? No. And thrice no. 'This is where I always stand and it will do for me tonight.' Did he search in vain for assistance from Mad and Barca Ultra? Not necessary. 'I can handle this little lot on my own, thanks all the same. I might send for you one day if it starts to get serious.'

No messing. He probably has some talent with the oval-shaped ball.
