Shame that but they were always going to struggle on small gates of just over 100.

I heard they had a few financial problems as their main backer had pulled out.

Unfortunately Fords were the worst team I have seen this season - they could have taken a first minute lead, but against a very poor Newport side they never looked capable of doing anything.

Newport eventually went ahead on 32 mins and then scored two more very quickly. The Newport number ten (Jason Bowen) having scored then decided he had had enough for the night and got sent off a few minutes later - second yellow.

Second half and Fords were still unable to make any headway, and then Jake Whincup got a red card for hands yards outside his area (it was an instinctive reaction as the player lobbed the ball over him, and to their credit the Newport players and bench applauded him off). Bobby Dinnen went in goal and made an excellent save from the free kick, but Newport's sub Jamie Moralee scored twice in the last few minutes to make it five.

Crowd was very small, possibly not much more than 150 (if that) - Newport had a supporters coach there - I would guess they had about 30.

Canvey at least had a good night, as Forest Green lost (although Northwich won).

We noticed a few Hornchurch supporters at the match, playing on the pool table.
