Dissapointing result....

Yes - very dissapointing !

The defence looked weak today and the forward line didn't really work. Discipline also not so good. (apart from that we were okay ?)

Considering where we were I guess we should be grateful - still as said before it's going to be nail biting close

Yes, a real rum do. I thought the officals had an especially bad game. In the end I was glad for the final whistle - we didn't want anyone else to get red carded, and the way things were going it could have been a real possibility. I think the highlight of the game was the linesman falling over! Looking forward to tomorrow night.

A short note from Saturday.

I've just seen the match report from that hack what writes for the Herts Advertiser and I'll share a sentence with you. After the opening sentences concerning the first half, he/she writes:

"As both sides settled, the pulsating (Gibbo will be pleased. He likes 'pulsating' - Ed) start could not be maintained and the only note of consistency came from the referee's whistle."

Now that chap knows how to write.

Strangely Rob, I have noticed that, too.

I suspect that 'pulsating' dates from Gibbo's programme notes last year when he mentioned that, to their astonishment, the previous week's match sponsors had seen a pulsating game, and thoroughly enjoyed the Clarence Park hospitality. The astonishment at both elements of their day was based, it was suggested, upon their avid reading of the match reports in the local rag which, presumably, indicated that the football was toilet and the hospitality no better.

I should add that I have never seen reference to the hospitality at t'Park in any match report in the local press but then, I would not claim that my knowledge is encyclopaedic. Further, I was intrigued at the time that anyone other than a sado-masochist would bother sponsoring a match if they expected that the football and the hospitality would be less than awe-inspiring but, then, what do I know about anything?

Anyway. It seems to me that the hack has used 'pulsating' in each match report ever since. (Another lap-dog - Ed). It's probably put 50 on each gate since and, therefore, contributed over £12,000 to the club over the season. And he's not a freeloader. If only certain others could make such a contribution.

Absolutely Alban.

I wouldn't waste the 30p, myself. Sanitised clap-trap. A universal panacea for all ills. Nothing but so-called 'positive spin', the 21st Century euphemism for 'lies'. And while I'm on the subject, the abysmal excuse for editorial! "..back stick...., ....take the positives...., Second half, we...., First half, they...." It's as bad as that chap what writes Lord Lippiatt's page in the matchday programme. Education? Pshaw! Haven't these people heard of good grammar? I wonder whether they are related? I think we should be told.

But I did like the "....only note of consistency came from the referee's whistle" bit. Fair play. Spot on, that, too. He/she was at the same game what I watched. Credit where it's due.

Rob. You are absolutely right!

I have checked my personal 'The Mighty Saints Volume 97: Season 2004/05' scrapbook and it was, indeed, the Dorchester Town match in September that enthralled our match sponsors and was described by the web-site as "..a pulsating draw played at breakneck pace at a very wet Clarence Park."

Webbo's comment prompted one or two responses on here and , in particular, several people queried whether he had actually attended the Dorchester game. 'Pulsating' it wasn't.

Anyway. The match sponsors enjoyed the game, it would seem, as did Webbo. More brownie points 'you know where' for Webbo, too. Some good has come out of it as the hack has, indeed, used 'pulsating' in every match report since. £12,000 a year. (12 pieces of silver more like - Ed).
