Bowers & Pitsea 1 Enfield Town 3

Recommended Posts

Hall, Campbell, Baldwin, Gant, Penn, Negus, Nyman, Hall, Smith, Riley, Green, Snowden, Ndombe, Allen, Brotherton, Pamplin

Town took the game to Bowers early on with Rudi Heading into the arms of the keeper. Dean Nyman made a lovely cross for Matty Negus to head across the goal just missing. Shame. Stevie Baldwin Made a lovely solo run for Kevin Riley to force a save by the keeper. Steve Baldwin made another lovely pass for Rudi to pivot and volley on the turn forcing a good save from the keeper. Rudi took a free kick for Lee Smith to head wide. Matty Negus and Dean Green linked up well for Dean Green to shoot just wide. Lee Smith had a shot punched just over the bar. Dean Nyman had a one on one with the keeper which was saved. Dean Green shot just over. Paul Campbell was booked for a foul which did not look as bad as some others. In the 36th minute Matty Negus took a corner providing the simplest of tap ins for Lee Smith 0 – 1. Lee does seem to relish playing his old club. Lee then had another header on target. Chopper saved relatively easily a one on one shot that looked more like a pass back from a Bowers striker. In the 44th minute Chopper made a crucial save from a Bowers player only to be adjudged the defender had given a penalty away. Town fans watch disbelieving as Anthony Reeve slotted home his penalty passed the diving Chopper. Nice try Chops.

After the break Rudi returned to the attack shooting just high over the bar. Lovely Move Rudi to Matty and then on to Deano who shot at the keeper forcing a save with his legs closed. Then Dean Green was fouled in the penalty box but the ref failed to give anything. The next three free-kick decisions in the middle of the pitch were in favour of Town appeared a mystery to most Town fans as to why they were free-kicks in our favour?

Finally Lee Smith who had been a nuisance to the defence the whole match was planted unceremoniously flat on his face the ref had no hesitation and the penalty was awarded. On 63 minutes Rudi Hall stepped up and scored celebrating noisily only to find he had to take it again. On 64 minutes he took it again and this time it counted. But his sense of fun got the better of him and he took it again for good measure. The ref didn’t appreciate the fun and booked him for his cheek 1 – 2. David Allen came on for Dean Nyman. Lee Smith then missed another one on one with the keeper. Shucks. Lee Smith headed on to Superkev who’s second header on was saved. Lee Smith shot again. At the other end Bowers forced the save of the match from Chopper. Could have been 2 – 2 so easily. Dean Green shot just wide. Then on 86 minutes Stevie Baldwin laid on a perfectly timed pass to Lee Smith leaving him in a one on one with the keeper and he nutmegged him to score 1 – 3. Seb Ndombe on for Matty Negus. Paul Campbell made a lovely run only to be planted on the deck. The fans were now in playful mood taunting Paul as he hobbled off ”Your Not going clubbing at Eros tonight – Gala Bingo for you.”

Pamplin on for Paul Campbell.

After a possible infringement Lee Smith looked on in horror as the ref appeared to be getting his book out to book him. The ref then explained don’t worry I just dropped it!

Rudi then had a Solo Effort saved.

3 points and no banana skin!

From a Bowers supporter.

Good game, played in good spirit and we did make a few chances which could have changed the game. However, not wishing to take anything away from Enfield's deserved win, but where oh where do we get these refs from??

1. Why was the Enfield defender not sent off in the 1st half when obviously being the last man when fouling Reevo? To add salt to the wound the same thing happened at Enfield on News Years Day!! Although a different incompetent Ref.

2. Why did the ref get conned into giving Enfiled a penalty which was a blatant dive if ever I saw one?

3. Why did he make them take it twice as i understand the infringement was made by the Bowers goalkeeper. Absolutely no sense there whatsoever. totally ludicrous!

Anyway, good game no gripes, just the poor old ref always gets it in the neck!

Well played both teams!

More importantly up the Canaries!!!

Bower totally agree with you regarding all aspects of the penalty decision, we was behind the goal & burst out laughing when the ref gave it, as my mate said, after the ref didnt give a pen for the foul on Dean Greene (which was a pen)

"the next time one of our players gets touched in the box, he will blow for a pen" and he duely obliged!

How is the Bowers player that went off with i presume a bad cut & how did it happen? was watching at the time but didnt see how the incident occured.

Good day out, good hospitality, thankyou Bowers.

This incident happened a good 40 yards away from goal and the foul happened as 'Reevo' won a headed challenge from Gant (who was a split second late trying to head the ball and headed Reevos head instead). I thought a yellow was correct. The ref went to the linesman to ask if there was any hint of an elbow, once he was satisfied it was head to head he gave a free kick and a yellow.

2. Why did the ref get conned into giving Enfiled a penalty which was a blatant dive if ever I saw one?
Smith made the most of it, but there was contact, and the Bowers player was knowhere near the ball.Dean Green was blatently chopped in the box five minutes earlier, but he was too honest and tryed to stay on his feet.Bowers had a good case for a penalty in the first half as their player was tackled late as he went to take a shot. The actual Bowers penalty award was a joke though. The guy just kicked the ball over the bar. There was certainly no contact on him until well after the ball was 20 foot over the bar.

3. Why did he make them take it twice as i understand the infringement was made by the Bowers goalkeeper. Absolutely no sense there whatsoever. totally ludicrous!
I thought the lino flagged for encroachment by at least 3 Town players.

Anyway, good game no gripes, just the poor old ref always gets it in the neck!
Thats something we all agree on.The ref was poor.

Confused - Why are you called the canaries you were playing in Aston Villa Colours not yellow and green. Your new toilet block is painted in Villa colours too!

West Ham United colours, not aston villa our 1st team sponsors company built the new main stand at upton park.

1. Why was the Enfield defender not sent off in the 1st half when obviously being the last man when fouling Reevo?

I thought that the defender was Cambell. However was this the lad that had to go off because of a cut in the second half. A medical report would be appreciated.

2. Why did the ref get conned into giving Enfield a penalty which was a blatant dive if ever I saw one?

Yes it was a dive - I dont know whether contact was made however Smith had already made his attempt at a poor shot. In any event there was a blatant penalty a few minutes earlier against Dean Green. The ref did not give Dean Green anything throughout the game.

3. Why did he make them take it twice as i understand the infringement was made by the Bowers goalkeeper. Absolutely no sense there whatsoever. Totally ludicrous!

There were at least 3 Town players encroaching into the area and the decision to retake was correct. The lino flagged as soon as the "goal" was scored no problem with that. I thought number 8 Bowers should have been booked and if he continued to complain got a red. It is for the ref to be satisfied that the ball is on the spot not the players.

Other questions

4. Why was Rudi told to pull his socks up to cover his white under socks when number 12 played with white oversocks the whole of the game?

5. After the Beckham affair many of us looked at the rules on dress. Players are incorrectly dressed if they are not wearing long sleeves. So why was number 10 allowed to play throughout the game with his sleeves rolled up? I find this rule interesting and the only reason for it, it seems to me, is that it assists the ref/lino to recognise the offending hand in a melee when there is handball.

On a final note Dean Green and Lee Smith were caught offside in the second half by the lino it is no use complaining. I was almost behind the lino at that point and I recognised that they were both offside. Lee and Dean if I am not complaining it is a waste of time you complaining.

I thought the lino on the trainer's side had a pretty good game yesterday and would be pleased if he became a ref sometime.

I think after all the talk of the poor old refs decisions and whether we could have done better the best thing to do would be to replay the game with me reffing and Lovely Stuff and Steff as my linos!!

Only joking, lets have a quiet sunday basking in the glory of Norwich's amazing win!

best wishes

Bower

By the sounds of it it was a lovely game according to Compo.

Booking for Rudi for kicking the ball back into the net after scoring the penalty! Surely common sense should have prevailed. I could understand it happening if we had had a penalty against us and Rudi was not happy with the decision.

As for the penalty itself. I am sure that the ball being 1/8th of an inch away from the centre of the spot would not have made too much difference to the result. Talk about it being a man's game!
