Saw on the news last night that four people have been CHARGED with Calvi's MURDER.

In the Hitler Youth, in the German Army, Deserter, and of course there were no Nazis in Germany,......after the war!!!!.........Makes you think doesn't it!

He was conscripted into the German Army.

 

I heard this rumour that the Allies used conscripts as well and if you dodged the draft you could be imprisoned. During the First World War the mighty Brits used to shoot deserters or conscientious objectors.

Now you all know that I don't like quibble..... in WW1, and in fact pretty much all wars, the British, like pretty much everyone else, shot those convicted of cowardice in the face of the enemy. Desertion is a different offence which may or may not have been construed as cowardice depending on the circumstances. It is of course fair to say that in WW1 there were some pretty ludicrous, and tragic, interpretations of "cowardice".

 

Conscientous objectors were those who objected to war on religious or moral grounds and were found other jobs to do, perhaps farming, or driving ambulances and so on. Remember Godfrey in Dad's Army? He won an MM as a conshy.
