Rebels?

At the game last night my mate asked me why Slough are called the Rebels, and i realised that i didnt know!

Why are slough called the rebels??

I believe it's because of the breakaway club Slough Town FC became in 1946 (?) when they split from the 'other' Slough team. Chris S will confirm and John Tebbitt/Alan Smith will provide a full history I'm sure.

I always thought it was because they were denied admittance to one league and then started their own league instead

I agree with CPL, it was due to us starting a new league with a couple of other clubs.

Yes it was to do with Slough breaking away from an orginal league and help form another...

 

therefore becoming the Rebels....

From the official website - "the club was reluctant to revert to Spartan League football at the end of the war. Consequently Slough led a move to create a new league which was quickly sanctioned by the F.A. This became known as the Corinthian League. It was because of this action that Slough United became known as the 'Rebels'.

 

In November 1947 the title was changed to Slough Town F.C"
