Would opting out mean i no longer pay ni from my wages. The extra money could be spent very usefully i feel???
anyone?

Don't be silly. NI payments also contribute towards your right to claim benefits should you lose your job. They also 'contribute' to the NHS - hence Blair's infamous 1p increase to improve the NHS.

At the end of the day, it's all tax and goes to one place.

Quite why the list NI as a seperate payment, I don't see why - apart from if he increases it then 'he hasn't increased income tax'.

I mean, they don't tell us how much from this month's wages is paying for Iraq, do they?

I know little about pensions and n.i etc, so this could be an obvious question.

I would be quite keen to opt out of state pension scheme as my companies one is excellent to say the least. Talking to an old guy the other day retiring this summer i think. he showed me his "readout" 250k lump sum on top of 40K a year pension salary.
I am 23 next month and have been with this company almost 3 years. My pension will be as good or better than this by the time I retire. The company does not even contribute at the moment as the scheme is so healthy. (they will in fuiture if this starts to turn)
Would opting out mean i no longer pay ni from my wages. The extra money could be spent very usefully i feel???

This statement should be ring major alarm bells! My company also took "payment holidays" in the past when all was rosy. Now my contributions have gone up big time because there now appears to be a short fall of several billion pounds in the fund! A fund should never be seen as "healthy" as todays healthy is tomorrows billion pound blackhole.

ok cheers, i wondered why it was listed seperately? thought i tmight be pension stuff. Shows a serious hole in my knowledge, maybe i should worry more than just "have i been paid...good" and find out what i am shelling out for month by month!!

Met loads of well known people, but the most outstanding encounters for me were...

...chilling out with Dean & Gene from Ween, with Kramer (ex-Butthole Surfer and Bongwater)on bass.

...chatting to Stirling Morrison, Mo Tucker and John Cale. (all ex- Velevet Underground)

Who??? I hear you say! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
