Next Season

Well its that time again-forget the rest of this season. We need to start looking for a new manager and some decent players for next season.

And before we get all the " they must be tired " excuses,I remember a few years back Hayes won the league to go into the Conference by being unbeaten for their last 18 games, after falling behind with the fixtures due to cup competions. It's called desire, commitment, and winning.

Thanks for your comments optimistic !!!!!!

After complaining about us registered fans having a go at our players when they play bad, YOU are the first one to mention our manager's position, none of us ever has.

As for last night, yes we lost again, but we played better than in the last two games, just tired (yes...tired) defending let us down.

Instead of looking for a new manager and players, maybe we should look to be getting rid of you.

Eddie and the team have been fantastic this season. Where as you have just become an annoyance.

Well now that the 'if we win our games in hand' posts have stopped, and the league season fizzles out, it is the right time to examine how the club and it's management have performed in meeting their objectives. I doubt they set themselves the goal of having some extended cup runs, and finishing below half way in the league. The suspicion can be raised that the players have been motivated better in the games where the occasion has motivated them (cup games, Windsor games), but motivated poorly in the bread-and-butter games where management preparation and motivation needs to contribute more (this week). In other words, the team may be underperforming when management input is most needed. It would not be the first time that good cup runs have protected the reputation of underperforming management, or the first time supporters have interpreted good cup runs as being at the design of management. I do not suggest condemning anyone, but questions can be raised, considered and discussed, especially if underperformance in the league is to be avoided next season.

What were we expecting to get out of this league this season? We have been put in a league with teams that were playing a division above us last season and with teams that finished above us at the same level last season. Personally I would have settled with a comfortable mid-table finish and a few cup runs and guess what? We've had a few cup runs and we look like we are going to finish mid-table. This club has none of the financial resources that other teams in this division has (their own grounds for starters, council backing etc.) so to have achieved what we have achieved is remarkable.

Look back at these boards even a couple of weeks ago - many were still expecting play offs. If you are happy, then congratulations - it's great to know that the club has fully met your expectations.

I think hoping for the playoffs rather than expectation was the thought. I for one felt that a midtable finish this season would be a good return as we're not really in a position off the field to push for pormotion. Obviously its very disappointing to lose three games on the trot, especially with all of them at Stag Meadow where we have had a very good record since we started playing there. However, I don't think it is fair to be overly critical of the playing staff and management. I'll be remembering this season because of the Walsall game, not because we 'failed' to reach the playoffs.

not reaching the playoffs is a good sacrifice to make for a couple of decent cups runs in my eyes, i would be happy with a top half finish for the club this season

i hardly think its the right time to examine eddies management skills, the guy has done a hell of a lot for this club and hes coping with everything pretty well

optimistic, how do you plan on getting 'decent players' on non contract terms with limited wages at a ryman league club (not trying to have a dig at the club but its true)? i think theres very little wrong with the players we have, maybe need another defender or two but thats about it!

I think the vast majority of us will be happy with staying in this league this season- at the beginning of the season most of us agreed that would be a good result- so 3 points and job done, i don't think we truly expected a play-off it was merely a hope, either way I think the lads have done superbly in a very challenging season.

I think Eddie has done a terrific job over the last two seasons. So things aren't going our way at the moment but its been a pretty good season overall. We shouldn't lose the faith.

Totally agree this time 14 months ago we were mid table ina lower league and never looked like we would get out of it! Hats off to Eddie!

I completely agree.

Mid table in a higher league, getting to the latter rounds in nearly all cups entered (without replays). That defines a good season.

Well done to Eddie, the players, and all associated with the team.

Just because we are critical about a few poor performances, it doesn't mean that we are not proud of the seasons achievements.
