Lack of strikers

What cover have we got if Greggors or Boylan get injured? In my opinion Cobby is well out of his depth with the current squad of players,I think Jeff plays him to try and justify what he payed for him he has never lived up to his his past record with other clubs.I know Boylan hasnt found his form from last season yet but to drop him tonight and play Cobby in his place was just unbelievable,i would feel insulted if i was Boylan.

What do you think! <img src="/forums/images/icons/confused.gif" alt="" />

I think Boylan & Gregory should start every game, simple!

Then if a substitution is required bring on Bertie Brayley, he looks to be able to hold his own. Then if we're REALLY desperate bring on Cobby or move an attacking midfielder up front like Forbes, Dozzell or Parms when he's able.

Went on Saturday, looking for a good match. We won! <img src="/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif" alt="" /> We brought on Bertie Brayley! <img src="/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif" alt="" /> We brought on.... Cobby.. <img src="/forums/images/icons/mad.gif" alt="" /> What a bunch of crap, he hardly moved. I think we're looking at another part exchange hopefully. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/argue.gif" alt="" />

I disagree that he hardley moved Saturday. I thought he did a lot of running when he come on but he wasn't on the same wavelength as the rest of the team. I would have brought on Brayley instead though I must admit. I wouldn't have played him from the start Monday either but "you don't know what's going on upstairs"

My Uncle's a Daggers season ticket holder. Speaking to him about Cobby, he recons he was outstanding for them in the Ryman but as soon as the got into the conference he lost his shooting boots.

I believe he can do the job, it's just that he's lost his confidence. The second half of last season I remember him cheekily lobbing keepers and making some very good runs (setting up a few goals as well). Lets just hope he bags one soon and gets some confidence back. Until then I think Brayley should have the third place infront of goal.

i think cobb is a class stiker if it aint working the strikers always get it.. cobby moves well, sure he aint the pace master, but he is a very intelligent footballer and normally great in front of goal (except that sitter at grays last season ;-) ).. i think when he is on song he works well with a passing midfield but if its not working for the team as a whole then its not his fault.. to summarise i think cobb is a great player and i wouldnt be to bothered if he started, maybe that would help

My first game this season was Saturday, although the result was good in the end there was some very worrying times , i.e ,Beno back to losing the ball so so easily , Boylan <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/biggrinangelA.gif" alt="" /> trying hard gets replaced by Cobb? who came on and looked lost, using Cobb to motivate Boylan will only piss him ,and the fans off <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/argue.gif" alt="" /> ,and has JK been told not to shoot <img src="/forums/images/icons/confused.gif" alt="" /> ? , he got himself right in front of goal with two golden opportunities ,only to pass them on .It was my first chance to see the new faces ,I was very impressed with Scott Forbes and Jeff Minton <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif" alt="" /> , we just need to play more as a team , and come back sex God ! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/director.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/icons/confused.gif" alt="" />

tsk tsk such short termism

if cobby was good last season despite starting most games from the bench.. then i doubt he has turned to [****!!****] in 3 months... as i said he is not a pace player but works on movement and accurate passing not something that has been in ample supply these last few games ... im sure if he was lining up for the opposition you would see him in a different light....

I agree Rich. we have some excellent defenders in wardy, ollie & chenners, but they are not going to play every game. Playing Benno at centre half isn't the answer, I like him in mid-field but not as a defender. I've thought we need a good centre half to replace Bodders, since last year.

Like everyone else I couldn't believe that Cobby played on Monday instead of Boylan. Why leave your best players on the bench ???

Sorry Canv for once I must disagree with you, it has been my opinion that Cobby has been off the boil for awhile and it started last season not this one. The strike rate and sharpness of Boylan is far superior and he really should be first choice, although I did not go on Monday I was told that things looked a lot better when Boylan and Duffy came on. For me, it seems that as soon as Boylan is substituted all seems to go pear shaped and we look to be under pressure in defence when they make wholsesale changes!! Lets hope that Wardy with his yard broom does the trick in defence and pretty soon I hope!

Wayne Vaughan better than Cobby ? I should say so, it's a shame the way he was treated last season <img src="/forums/images/icons/mad.gif" alt="" /> , I'm sure he would of netted more goals than Cobby , he doesn't need a perfect pass , he can run for the ball <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/director.gif" alt="" /> .

I wish Wayne all the best at his new club (where I here his already opened his score card <img src="/forums/images/icons/tongue.gif" alt="" /> ), I'd love to see Jeff's face if he came to Park Lane and stuck one in the net <img src="/forums/images/icons/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/icons/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/icons/crazy.gif" alt="" /> , (as long as Canvey win the game ) <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif" alt="" /> . <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smilie_switch.gif" alt="" />

both are box players who feed on bits and pieces

you do not gain maximum strike rates from bits and pieces players using the hoike from the back and a nod on, if thats the scheme then we need a striker with pace first second and last

I agree with CANV the passing game is where we struggle at present

plus natural defenders who understand that the mid-field is not a flight path

one other worry from the Basingstoke game was the lack of natural instinct to cover each other by defenders out of position (natural mid-fielders)

I feel certain the coaching staff will iron out the obvious and that there are more than enough talented players to give us a solid season
