LC - just watchin Newcastle game; will ESL being having a moments silence before this Saturday's games as a mark of respect to the Pope?

Well, if that's going on, I'll be in the bar (always assuming Bowers have a good one). I didn't like him alive and don't see why I should change my mind just because he's popped his clogs.

If the rest of you want to show whatever respect you might have for him, go ahead. Just don't expect me to join in.

22 million people pray for him and he still dies....there's another good reason to kick religion into touch....

And further more our president/prime minister cancels his trip to the queen and bat ears' wedding has been delayed, and of course considering that the head of state in the UK is not allowed to marry a catholic.....don't even go there...grrrrrrrrr

You forgot to mention that the Grand National is also being put back a bit because the BBC is chasing ratings.

might go something like

"Glagow Celtic, Glasgow Celtic...........Whats it like to have no Pope, whats it like to have no Pope."

Seriously, Pope was a nice bloke and all that, but are we exposing ourselves a little, would we then have to have a mins silence when all other religious leaders died etc etc...........????

For times such as these

"

'Behold the fatal day arrive!

How is the Dean? He's just alive.

Now the departing prayer is read :

He hardly breathes. The Dean is dead.

Before the passing-bell begun,

The news thro' half the town has run.

O, may we all for death prepare!

What, has he left? And who's his heir?

I know no more than what the news is,

'Tis all bequeathed to public uses.

To public use! A perfect whim!

What had the public done for him!

Mere envy, avarice and pride!

He gave it all :- But first he died.

And had the Dean, in all the nation ,

No worthy friend, no poor relation?

So ready to do strangers good.

Forgetting his own flesh and blood?

My female friends, who tender hearts

Have better learn'd to act their parts,

Receive the news in doleful dumps,

'The Dean is dead, (and what is trumps?)

Then Lord have mercy on his soul.

(Ladies I'll venture for the Vole.)

Six Deans they say must bear the pall.

(I wish I knew what King to call.)

Madam, your husband will attend

The funeral of so good a friend.

No Madam, 'tis a shocking sight,

And he's engag'd to-morrow night!

My Lady Club wou'd take it ill

If you shou'd fail her at Quadrill.

He lov'd the Dean. (I lead a heart.)

But dearest friends, they say, must part.

His time was come, he ran his race ;

We hope he's in a better place.'

Why do we grieve that friends should die?

No loss more easy to supply.

One year is past ; a different scene ;

No further mention of the Dean ;

Who now, alas, no more is mist,

Than if he never did exist.

Where's now the fav'rite of Apollo?

Departed ; and his works must follow :

Must undergo the common fate

His kind of wit is out of date.

Some country squire to Lintot goes,

Enquires for Swift in verse and prose :

Says Lintot, 'I have heard the name :

He died a year ago.' The same

He searcheth all his shop in vain;

'Sir you may find them in Duck-lane :

I sent them with a load of books,

Last Monday to the pastry-cooks.

To fancy they could live a year!

I find you're but a stranger here.

The Dean was famous in his time ;

And had a kind of knack at rhyme :

His way of writing now is past ;

The town hath got a better taste :

I keep no antiquated stuff ;

But, spick and span I have enough.

Pray, do but give me leave to show-em ;

Here's Colley Cibber's Birth-day Poem.

This Ode you never yet have seen,

By Stephen Duck, upon the Queen.

Then, here's a Letter finely penn'd

Against the Craftsman and his friend ;

It clearly shows that all reflection

On ministers, is disaffection.

Next, here’s Sir Robert's Vindication,

And Mr. Henly's last Oration :

The hawkers have not got 'em yet,

Your Honour please to buy a set?"

ST, I respect your question but feel that individuals can mark their respects in their own personal way. In addition to this, clubs are free to follow suit by arrangement with each other but there will be no official directive from the League.

ALL religion and politics should have NO place in football the same way we are trying to rid it of racism.

Should have had a minutes silence when the Hammers got relegated. As for charlie and Camilla,dont know who to feel sorry for -Her for marrying him or him for marrying her.A right old pair who deserve one another. Diana was the true queen.

Agreed, Brunob.

Further, as I understand it, this popey bloke was a Roman Catholic. What's that got to do with the United Kingdom of Great Britain? As you all may have spotted, I'm not a royalist by any means, but I'm with Henry 8 on this one. Good move Harry!

And don't even think of a minute's silence for prince whatisname of Monaco. I thought he's only just got the sack from Valencia, anyway.

Not religious at all myself and agree with most but not all the above posts, agree only time to have a minutes silence is if it directly affects the clubs playing that match.

Plenty of other ways to show our respect for whatever the situation maybe.

Of all faiths i find the roman catholic the most hypacritical but thought Pope John Paul II, a genuine person with a refreshing attitude.

As for Charlie boy, good luck to him, hope he finds some peace & happiness, god he deserves it, wouldnt want his life for anything.

As for Diana, nice girl but as over-hyped as the Beatles, but then people always more popular after death.

So lets look forward to a football match at Bowers tomorrow at 3pm, when nothing else will matter for 90 mins.
