European Cup Quiz

Recommended Posts

1. Eight English teams have reached the Semi-Finals of the European Cup (or Champions League) since 1960. Name all eight.

2. Excluding Everton (whose two Championships came during the English Euro ban of the 1980's), who are the only other two English clubs to have won the Championship since 1970, yet have failed to reach the Semi-Final of this competition?

I sent Gertcha this one last night, so maybe he could sit this one out?

Yes, very good, Yellow.

Now, from these eleven clubs mentioned (including Everton), can you work out the ratio of number of times qualified to number of times reached the semis since 1960.

I'll start you off.

Spurs - 1:1 (ie qualified once, reached Semis once - 100% success rate)

I'll leave you to work out the other ten.

Blackburn 1:0

Everton 0:0

Derby Co 1:1

Chelsea 2:1

After that I'm really struggling.

Have Blackburn only qualified for Champions League once? When they finished second (94?), was this before 2nd place teams qualified? - I'm not sure.

Man Utd will have qualified for every Champions League (I think) plus two European Cups (1968 which they won, and presumably the following year too, due to that victory)

Villa have qualified for two, I think. They won the League in '81 and the European Cup in '82, thus qualifying them for next years.

Forest three. Won the league in the late seventies. Won the European Cup the following two seasons.

Now I'm stuck...

Blackburn qualified the once when they won it in 95. 2nd placed teams were allowed in from 97/98 season. Not sure when they started letting in 3rd or 4th placed teams.

The top two in 1996/97 season, Man United and Newcastle were allowed in the CL the following season.

I think it was three from 1999/2000.

Here's a question for you guys.

Name the four sides currently in the Premiership who have never played in European competition?

I'm not including the Intertoto Cup.

You're right Zeal, except Fulham. They played in last season's UEFA Cup.

Bolton, Charlton, Palace and Portsmouth have not played in Euro competition.

Two questions:

Name the two sides in this season's league 1 that have competed in Europe?

Name the only two sides currently plying their trade in English non league football to have appeared in European competition?
