Slough Town 2-1 Northwood

We took control early on, but could not put away our chances then a Zepherin error gifts them the lead.

Still playing well, and draw deservedly level just before h/t through Sammy Winston.

Second half, starts evenly then they began to get on top a little and three fine saves from Zepherin keeps us in the match.

Just as it looks like a draw with 5 mins left Veli hits a shot into the top corner of the net.

Gilkes then has a goal disallowed for offiside and Hale sees his left footed effort go inches wide.

Nervous last few minutes, but we held on for the win.

Crowd fairly good, about 440(ish)

Thought today was pretty good. The 'goal' that Gilkes had disallowed would have been one of the best footballing goals Wexham Park had seen for a long time. The counter attack was so good. Saying that the Wexham Park goal of the season competition is well and truly underway thanks to Winston's against Hornchurch and Hakki's today. What a screamer! One bloke next to me remarked that we must have held onto the ball for about two minutes before the ball actually went in under constant pressure for the whole time. However, my lasting memory of this game will be when, with a minute to go and Hornchurch in possession, Andy Deaner slid in right next to where I was standing and won the ball with a crunching tackle. The whole ground seemed to erupt. The atmosphere at the end was superb as well and you could tell that the players were genuinely ecstatic. Lets just hope that all these positives can continue and that we can celebrate some kind of success come May!

A good result and an enjoyable game. I think we will see even better crowds if this is kept up as fans went away happy-not just with the result but with the effort shown by the whole team. A complete change from the last few seasons when players often seemed not to care. Good to see Hale encouraging the crowd to be loud. This lot look hungry to play and as long as that continues people will turn up even if there is the odd setback.

Yes very entertaining, the crowd of 446 certainly had their monies worth and while as a team effort it was a joy to watch,we must keep our feet on the ground so to speak.Whilst it would be true to say that Winstone-Hale-and Daly(and at times the keeper)were outstanding and not far behind Haki done well in spasms,it would also I feel be true to say that one or two positions need to be looked at-the right back while I agree has potential,he is very erratic and needs a calming hand brought to bear, and Spencer and Metcalf just don't do enough, and so at times the midfield was completely over run.

So in conclusion I would like to say that they must keep going forwards and attack all the time-because they won't win many games defending-Up the Rebels.

ps. on a lighthearted yet serious note shouldn't defenders(Daly excepted)head the ball forwards?

What a good game, great goal from Hakki(i know its early and i didn't see Winstons against Hornchurch but it will be there or there abouts for goal of the season).Plenty of noise from the crowd as well,Hale got them wound up ,didn't see any of that last season.Keep it going lads.UP THE REBELS

From my own opinion since Metcalfe joined he has been one of our best players and has been a good signing so far.

Spencer was a little disappointing, but he has only been with the club a few weeks, so it's a little unfair to judge him yet I feel.

Did anyone see Mark Hawthorne today below the stand with Adrian Blake, Anthony Howard and Wilko? Could he be coming back?

I agree with Chris here , i also think Metcalfe is one of our best players so far . I watched the game at Marlow from the side and the work he does is excellent , don't forget Northwood 'aint a crap side . Spencer was a little dissapointing yesterday , but overall he's impressed me . Was surprised at an above remark about Hakki . Three of us help out with Mats' site for his reports and we agreed to give our first 10/10 for the season and not just for the goal , it's good to see someone who really want's it . I also liked the attitude of Steve Hale by getting the crowd involved . The only doubts i have is with Palmer and Ricky Browne , not convinced . Glad when Howard it back .

Matt - it's because of the bad language you used in your post!!

Nah, it was my fault. I started the thread which read Slough Town 2-1 Nortwood when it should have read (obviously) Slough Town 2-1 Northwood and as you and Ted replied to my message you had the same mistake in your title as well, so I changed both your post titles to put it right.

Hakki and Metcalfe have done well in the last couple of games and formed a good partnership and understanding. Also with Wilko on his way back it will keep them on their toes with the competition for places in central midfield. With an in form Gilkes(about time)and a promising Spencer our four in midfield look pretty strong.UP THE REBELS

Haven't enjoyed a Slough game quite so much for some time (possibly as long as 5 years!). The quality of football at times and the committment was excellent.

What's Michael Gilkes done to himself, he's a different player and all those ex-pros & players with big reputations who under performed so much in the last three seasons are not missed. Instead we've got a bunch of lads who are playing for each other. Hooray I can indentify with that, let's have more.

That Northwood side were good too, so we've played 2 of the top sides already, if Hornchurch prove overall to be such.

Martyn Deaner was well chuffed too on Monday.

Definately not sure about Rickey Browne but he did play much better on Monday compared to first two games I saw (Hornchurch/Marlow). IMO though when everyone is fit the team should be;

GK - Zepherin/Blake

RB - Howard

LB - Reed/Barrowcliff

CB - Daly

CB - Palmer

RM - Spencer

LM - Gilkes

CM - Metcalfe/Barrowcliff

CM - Hakki

CF - Winston

CF - Hale

Goalkeeper is a difficult one. Zepherin has done well for 89 minutes of the games but then there always seems to be that moment of madness. He did do well second half on Monday though. The other one is Barras. Reed has looked pretty good but has currently lost his place to Barras. For me Barras should be in any Slough side the question is where. I'm thinking that if Wilko is not fully fit for Saturday the chances are he will play centre midfield to replace Metcalfe (suspended). Unless of course we see some magical tactic where Winston reverts to midfield and we get to see Mr Deaner up front again!
