A bit of fun...

I'm not sure of the story, I was pissed when he told it. From the press release for their tour, it would appear he did actually become the fifth Beatle. Colin should remember.

"Choral cockney duo Chas 'n' Dave will be reliving their unforgettable chirpy musical favourites when they visit the Broadway Theatre, Barking, on Friday 30 March.

Self-styled musicians with a particularly British charm, Chas Hodges and Dave Peacock wrote a series of classic hits in the 1980s including "Rabbit", "Gertcha", "Ain't No Pleasing You", and "Margate".

Chas, once a member of chart toppers Mike Berry and the Outlaws and Cliff Bennett and the Rebel Rousers and Dave, a top session bass guitarist, were brought together by a common love for their North London roots (Spurs!), and a shared dislike for pop stars trying to sound American.

They wrote English songs and sang them natural. A string of top selling albums, tv shows, Royal Command Performances followed. Now two years after their 25th anniversary, the boys are spilling the beans on their unique exploits in the "Two for the Road Tour".

Unplugged, the first half of the show features the duo playing guitars and banjos and sharing intimate stories with audience, including "Working with the Beatles before Hamburg", "What Princess Margaret told them over dinner", "How Chas became the fifth Beatle", and "Recording at Sun Studios in Memphis".

The second half of the show sees them perform their familiar hits, plus the sing-a-longs their audiences have come to expect.

Gertcha - I consider myself to be a bit of a Beatle wizard, and I have NEVER heard Chas Hodges referred to as the fifth Beatle (although I appreciate his story is probably tongue-in-cheek!!)

George Martin, Brian Epstein, Billy Preston, even stand-in drummer Jimmy Nicol have been touted as a fifth Beatle, but not that bearded twat!!

However... the sample on Eminem's "My Name Is", believe it or not, is performed by Chas and Dave!

The sample itself comes from a 1970s Labi Siffre song, but Chas Hodges and Dave Peacock were the two session musicians employed by Siffre to play on that record!!
