Is this the same George Borg

George Borg has tendered his resignation at Ryman Premier Division club Hornchurch. In a statement he said: "The issue arose over my commitment to coach in America this summer and the Board were reluctant to allow my absence during the close season which I understand the reasons for. In that respect I have tendered my resignation from all managerial responsibilities.

"I would like to thank the fans, staff and players for all the support that they have given me during my stay here and also thank the board for releasing me from my contract. The season so far has been a good one and the success in the two major cups was enjoyed by all of us and put the club on the map.

"I hope that the club continue to move forward and enjoy much more success in the future. I have enjoyed my stay working with very committed people and feel that I have taken the club up another step from where it was when I joined".

hhhmmmm....that of course disappeared along with all the rest of Borgs file from the offices at the stadium.....

if he was 'grateful' for being released from his contract...how on earth did we end up paying him compensation...surely we should have received compensation from him or at least his new employers in america....perhaps a counter claim on wednesday would be the order of the day.....

well found mrs bumble bee.....reuters I assume would have posted it through google....

wonder what else there is on there.... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

the REAL question AFF is this....

did either of them go to america.... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

of course our lawyers have looked into the visas issued at that time with regard to Borg and the question will be asked of 'his majesty' when he takes the stand for a few hours on wednesday....

there is of course a recognisable difference between a holiday visa and a work visa.... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I'm sorry that you Urchins are involved in litigation, UU, but this could be another trial that grips the Nation.

As I recall 'Sophocleous Vs. Read and another' attracted no little interest on here a couple of years back. 1300 posts or thereabouts over about 22 pages. You and I followed the thing with passing interest, of course, UU. The Court found for Mr Sophocleous and if my memory serves me, he was awarded £5000 in damages which, from his subsequent statement, he donated to Gt Ormond Street hospital. Those were the damages but the real damage was the £150,000 costs awarded against 'Read and another'. £150,000. Phew! Mind you, Read did call 7 witnesses I believe, and it was a 5 day trial. Lawyers don't come cheap, of course.

Madness.

In the context of the apparent matter at hand, it was a strange statement issued by George Borg, reproduced at the start of this thread. I remember reading it in the NLP at the time. Coaching in America. Hmmnnn. No small feat for Buzz Lightyear and the Iron to tempt him back to Blighty from the Tampa Bay Galaxy or whoever it was. I wonder if he knows Tony Roberts the present Daggers goalkeeper who, according to the Press Release issued when he left the Mighty Saints a few years back was to play for them in the States. Still. That's yet another story for another day.

Good luck on Wednesday from me.
