Goals G Hall, Riley, Smith for Town and Power for Waltham Abbey.

As a must win important game and Towns biggest Home game since AFC Sudbury the match started tense and the nerves were jangling for both sides. Paul Campbell made a run and was brought down just outside the box. On the 4th minute Rudi Hall crossed and Graeme Hall rose heading a rocket into the bottom corner of the goal. 1 – 0. Town then caught fire with Dean Green hitting a cracker which Hickman saved onto his own crossbar. Russell Penn ran from midfield in a solo effort which Hickman fumbled away some how for a corner. David Allen making all sorts of possibilities with some lovely skill. Paul Campbell showboating with a lovely back heal. Not to be out of it Waltham Abbey had a few shots on goal. Graeme Hall made a crucial sliding clearance. Steve Baldwin shot wide. In the 32nd minute Lee Smith made a lovely pass forward for Kevin Riley in a 1 on 1 with Hickman who slotted the ball passed him in a lovely move. 2 – 0. Town fans celebrated the cushion and began to breathe easier. David Allen hit a looping long shot forcing Hickman to punch away. Kevin Riley began to party with an overhead scissor kick from a lovely pass from David Allen. Chopper nearly got into problems after the ball was kicked out of his hand. Half Time came and town fans applauded their team off the pitch for the commitment and quality of play.

At Half time Bradley Brotherton came on for Graeme Hall.

But this is a game of two halves and Waltham Abbey weren’t about to roll over. Waltham Abbey fouled Matty Negus. Rudi Hall fed a lovely perfectly balanced ball through for Matty to shoot just over. Paul Campbell tackling back beautifully.

In the 49th minute Luke Power hit a screamer at maximum power to beat Chopper 2 – 1. Town fans started to wonder if Waltham Abbey might get back into this match. At this point David Allen was running with the ball from deep in his own half not once but twice. Lee Smith hit a header on target for a save. David Allen linked up well cross a ball inch perfect square to Matty Negus to panic the Abbey defence. On 54 minutes Lee Smith poked a shot through to the side of Hickman along the ground and it bounced off the post and in 3 – 1. Cushion restored. Kevin Riley shot on target. At the other end some awesome tackling back by Russell Penn. Chopper punched away a shot. Matty Negus crosses a beautiful cross for Dean Green to shoot on target. Russell Penn tackling back again with some lovely footwork and timing. Dean Nyman came on for Dean Green and immediately had a solo effort go just wide. Chopper saved again.

Lee Smith was fouled by Waltham Abbey in the box and ended up getting booked by the ref who was not to the town fans standards. Chopper was well beaten by a shot that went just wide phew! Close one. Dean Nyman fouled in the box - No penalty. David Allen went off for Asa Pamplin to come on.

3 points well won! Bring on the next match!

Sorry, Compo, It is I who must stand corrected and have now been told that It WAS Luke Power and that was straight from the dulcet tones of Abbeynut - but it won't worry you with a 3-1 win under your belt. I watched the Leagues recent shock merchants Barkingside do it again this afternoon - a very entertaining " team " with an 88th minute winner heard " live" by your club as they rang me the result! How's that for Theatre !

didn't really wanna post but can't let that stand as a lovely goal when it took a massive deflection of smithy's ass!

Deflections go in and whilst cruel are a fact of life. But thanks for the correction, my view of the deflection was blocked by players!

PS Thank goodness it wasn't his chin that reaaly would have foxed Chopper!

My highlight of the game was the way Smithy fooled the keeper into expecting a quality shot then mis-hitting it to perfection in off the post, a touch of class that shows the new boots were a good investment.

Did you see the Smithy goal?

Quality finishing.

Pace of the shot.

Direction.

Skill level.

Ability to fool the 'keeper.

All missing, but who cares. It went in and that is all that matters.

Notice from the picture above that no one was standing in front of the main stand and blocking the view of those who were seated? The orange fencing used to good advantage again.
