Chelmsford in name change

Chelmsford City FC have called a press conference for this morning regarding a change of name. In order to secure grants and reflect the area and location of thier new surroundings in accordance with the new ground grading rules, Chelmsford City Football Club will now be known as Chelmsford Town Football and Athletics Club. This is a move that is likely to cause controversy among fans, but club directors insist it is the only way to secure the future of the club.

Technically they should be Town or borough and not City. I understand City was adopted in the 1920's when the local authority had applied to Buckingham Palace for City status, the club adopted the title assuming it was a done deal. Particularly with the town having a cathedral.

Just a bit of trivia (my heads full of it).

I heard they were re-naming to:-

Chelmsford United Northern Town Sports.
