Well it's a surprise to me, old chap. Call me old-fashioned, naive if you will, but I tend to rely upon the news on here which comes from Official informed people. One of the web-site chaps came on the other day and gave a categorical assurance that t'lad would be with us until the end of the season. Which one was it, can you remember? Rumours from Monday that he would be going back to the South Coast were comprehensively scotched.

 

Shame on you Rob for passing on scurrilous terrace talk with absolutely no basis of fact whatsoever, of that kind. That sort of stuff could result in even 50 people choosing Sainsburys rather than t'Park on a Saturday afternoon which would mean over £12,000 a year to the club. Where do you get this kind of stuff from? No wonder Gibbo thinks that its all trash on here.

 

If the lad is, indeed, on the 6.25 back to Brighton, then thanks and good luck to him for the future from me. He has made a big difference to the back 4 and he will be sorely missed.

 

[Oh, by the way. Confirmation of a player's departure is usually announced on the web-site under a headline along the lines of "Gary Elphick/Richard Goddard/whoever signs and commits his future to The Saints". Best to wait fior something of that kind to have absolute comfirmation.]

I've generally realised in football though, that if you want the truth about players/transfers/whatever, you'll find out more from the average bloke gossiping on the terrace than you'll ever get from the 'powers-that-be'.

I see, from the offical website, that Gary Elphick HAS gone back to Brighton for the game against Coventry on Saturday. Whether he stays at Brighton will depend on how well he does and if Brighton need him.

 

Also, Liam George has gone back to Grays and we have a new striker on loan from Staines Town, and also a new defender from Heybridge Swifts.

What on earth is going on? No, not at the football club - I gave up trying to work that one out last season. No. On here and on the Official web-site.

 

Webbo has a bit of a track record of printing[?] whatever 'the powers that be' tell him to print on Rob's web-site, In Buzz Lightyear's time it was 'Richard Goddard signs and commits his future to the Saints' and latterley it's Manchester United Under 8s billed as a Manchester United XI etc. etc. but the Gary Elphick story is well beyond that. Its the tone at which I marvel. If you didn't know better you would think that he truly believed it! A graduate with honours of the Goebbels College of Disseminating Fact & Fiction.

And to Hertsblue. He gives the impression of blind faith but he does like to issue the odd hint to the discerning fan. As soon as I saw that Liam George was in the matchday programme as the player interview last Saturday, I knew that we wouldn't be seeing him again. Still. Another one for my scrapbook. He drives a Reliant Robin and has Jim Reeves on the CD player, apparently. It occurred to me that Liam wasn't treating the interview with the same seriousness as the many thousands of Saintsfans what buy the thing and, allegedly, congratulate Hertsblue on the innovative and interesting feature. But then I do have a cynical side which comes through from time to time.
