I thought he was cautioned for re-entering the field of play without permission, having had to leave it to put his boot back on?

 

If that was the case, then a caution is correct.

He may have got away with it if he had not attempted to play hopping about on one foot. The point is if he has not got a boot an opponent will think twice about challenging him for the ball.

 

The caution was the right decision.

I was at the game and it happened right in front of me. Beckham came off the pitch to get a new boot and then came back on without permission and tried to tackle back. It was the linesman who alerted the referee, he put his flag up as soon as Beckham tried to join in with play. I'm fairly sure it was for leaving and/or re-entering the field of play without permission.

For once I think that Mark Lawrenson had a good match on the mike. He called the booking for coming back on to the field without permission straight away. He also pointed out on more than occasion what a good game the team of officials had. Didn't read any plaudits for them in the papers this morning as that is not what people want to read about, but blow me we would have read about it if they had got an important decision wrong!!

I remember Paul Gascoigne scoring against the gooners at WHL with one boot off - the kicking foot as well if memory serves.

 

However the boot had come off shortly before, and he had not left the field of play.
