...also recent events have made me feel the same about nurses ... and I always thought that was the uniform ... but seriously, we are again running a charity match "The George Walker Memorial Trophy" on Tuesday 3rd May, featuring young teams from City Youth with a view to funds raised at that game going to the Neurosurgical Educational Fund, which is headed (no pun intended) by the surgeon who opperated on Jake in Leeds. I will supply exact details when I know more as we have only just had the whole event approved. I will be chasing for willing sponsors etc so be warned ...I will be in touch.

Well that time has arrived .....Jake is now fit and up returning to Leeds at the end of this week. Still waiting for the final "all is well" or "this is as good as it gets". Will find out once he sees the consultant surgeon who performed the initial operation. Not certain about a return to football but he has been swimming, jogging up to 6 miles and has been kicking a ball around in fun with mates but serious stuff .....who knows.

I have been in touch with the surgeon (for those that don't know his name is Jake Timothy. I have sons Jake, Luke and Timothy ..how weird is that ?) regarding the donation from our George Walker Memorial Game and will print his request below .......

Beverley has told me you propose to raise money on behalf of our fight against brain injury. One area which I feel passionate about is the safe transfer of head injured patients. In the UK (unlike most places in the States and rest of Europe) most patients are first taken to district general hospitals and after a period of time eventually transferred to an appropriate neurosurgical unit. This can take a lot of

time and I have certainly seen many patients suffer due to this process.

I have therefore, taken it upon myself to organise a National Neurotrauma Symposium aimed at helping units across the country to optimise the transfer of head injured patients safely and timely.

I personally believe that this is a practical solution to improving patients lives. Of course there is a lot of research going into brain injury and although I am also involved with this, it may take many years for us to discover 'cures' for brain injury.

Its the practical aspects which tend to be ignored.

Last September I organised an extremely successful symposia (www.neurotrauma.leeds.ac.uk) and I have been asked again to organise another. Unfortunately, these meetings are expensive to run. You could download the programme and see the speakers from all over the world. If you are able to donate any money, I feel that this would be the most relevant area to promote.

I would be delighted for any contribution or to discuss if there were other particular areas where you felt the money would be better used.

Please give my namesake my regards

Jake

In light of the fact that Jake was certainly saved by his swift transfer to the hospital and the speed of treatment he could therefore receive City Youth have adopted this as our cause for the proceeds of the above game. I will be at Saturdays game with a donation / sponsorship form for those who are prepared to help. I wont be pushing people so please pass the word and give a little if you can.

Long winded I know but a lot to get through ...see you all Saturday and great results over the last week. Sorry to have missed those but was in Belgium on tour with the under 18's from this year
