What is it with you people??

What is it with you people?

Do law's and rules not apply to you? Do you OWN the football club? Are you all fully trained health and safety inspectors or fire chiefs? Are you the police?

NO!!

So tell me now, what gives you the right to come up to us (stewards, the pawns in this war between the FA/Conference and the supporters) and tell us that we are brainless or stupid when we are only enforcing WHAT WE ARE BRIEFED TO ENFORCE at the beggining of the season, before matches and whats written on our little laminated RULES cards.

Can i say these rules are a MUST for every club, be it Manchester United or Margate.

With regard to the bloke who was made to walk all the way around the ground because he had to come in the away end. I can only say your right it was silly and unnecessary and if i was the steward who was in that area i would've helped you through both sections, but some of us deal with situations differently.

Why the season ticket gate was closed so early is beyond me but that's nothing whatsoever to do with the stewards thats either come from the reception people, or the opperators themselves. ask them.

The yellow and white hatched stairways are to be kept clear as they are escape routes for emergencies or so that stewards like myself can jump over the wall without 'Ninja Kicking' anyone who's standing by the wall, it's self explainitory really if you look at it, 'white with yellow crossed hatching', is kind of like the higway code in a way, you wouldn't park your car on the forecourt of a firestation, would you? (Well... maybee in London). And you may have noticed some fire safety inspectors walking the grounds at the forrest green game.

Alcohol is another classic, if you can see the pitch with alcohol in your hand, then the pitch and more dangerously CAMERAS can see you, BANG big fine... No Money... Administration... No club... oh well better renew the chelsea season ticket cos The fleet will be back down to the lowest league possible before you know it!

And stop complaining to us about the home end terracing... 'I'll tell you what, we'll have a whip round' how many of you will give away your loose change for something like that? Some supporters are more than happy to throw them at me (Long story but i ended up going home with a couple of quid extra after a few 'firey' matches)

Hopefully this answers a few questions and puts to bed these rambles about us 'W*****s'.

Also if there's anything your not happy with or you feel theres something we've missed, then for crists sake tell one of us we are quite friendly... well i am anyway, you can usually find me the young one (at the risk of blowing my cover and loosing my 'Job'/'Voluntary Position') patrolling the stonebridge road side.

Thank you for reading, oh and to the pot smokers at halfway... it aint big and it aint clever. heres hoping for a good last two home games and a better next season all round.

He has a point - people moan about stewards not having common sense, but come on, sometimes it's not worth all the hassle and moaning on here just because we think they enforce rules too heavily, and then we moan if they don't. Perhaps as fans we also need to use a little common sense, even if we think the rules are petty or unenforcable.

These people don't get paid much (if at all?) and, yes, some could benefit from more training and more common sense, but they're also dealing with a lot of people, some of them co-operative, some of them not, some of them downright ignorant and stupid. And then everyone moans at them - it's a thankless task and I bloody well wouldn't do it.

Don’t get paid? I should bloody well hope not as well. They’re getting to watch the matches for free, what more do they want? A run out in the first team as well perhaps?

Let’s get this right; whilst they may be okay away from the ground, why is it that stewards turn into the biggest jobsworth [****!!****] as soon as they put on their florescent jackets? For six days a week they’re insignificant nobodies but come 3pm on match days and they turn into the biggest tyrants going.

Which may be true individually - but you're lumping them all in the same group - this bloke who's posted, and some of the others might not be the dopey robots that everyone would be led to believe by a post like yours. A little bit of dialogue, as as has been shown when the Safety Officer's posted on here, works wonders. Rather than tarring them all with the same brush and calling them all nobodies. At least the fella above has more or less admitted who he is... which is more than you've done.

Sometimes the actions of a large proposition of individuals within a certain group can be enough to tarnish the reputation of the entire membership of that group. For example, while it may not be true that ‘most blacks are muggers’, there would be a great deal of truth in the statement that ‘most muggers are black’.

Sir Paul Condon said that 80% of muggers are black. That doesn’t mean that 80% of blacks are muggers.

Whilst this is factual some people also found this racist. Sir Paul should have considered announcing that 20% of muggers are white…

I fancy this thread might get interesting, so I'll with-hold my judgement until later !!

That statement about the black muggers is very racsist, and not all stewards let this club down some are excellent at keeping us safe and maybe some just want to do a little to much to keep us safe!

Why is it racsit? What I have said is factually true. Is the truth racist?

Thanks very much mate. If your the bloke I think you are then I was the guy that told you in the shop that Anselin played for Borduex in the UEFA Cup final just before the Canvey game.

As I have said on another thread if people get told not to go in the yellow box then why not try going into the yellow box. We had some bloke on here the other day saying that every time he went into the yellow box he was told to get out.

Well dah, obviously he hadn't seen that episode of the simpsons where Lisa tries to find out "Is her Brother (Bart) dumber than a Hampster?" She runs a series of tests to see if Bart can out smart the Hamster, not directly but she'll do a test on the Hamster and then on Bart.

In one perticuler test she rigs up a cup cake to some electrical wires, the Hamster goes for the cup cake once but he soon feels a nasty shock and refuse's to return to the cake. Meanwhile Bart tries and in turn gets a nasty shock, he tries again and again and again and still won't learn that it is rigged up.

We could be dealing with the same brand of people here (although not yellow), so in other words if you want to get any sensible actions out of the creatures you work with have you ever tried working for a vet?

As for the guy that was told to walk all the way round that was just plain silly and I'm sure that th eguy didn't mean any harm he was just doing his job. I am in full support of our stewards and think they do a mervelous job, and it wouldn't seem half as bad if everyone got off their back.

Maybe. But if you're going to go round saying things like that, you'd have to add that most of the inbred rat-faced little scroats who make people's lives a misery around the housing estates of Gravesend & the rest of the uk, are almost universally white. If I'm walking after dark in Gravesend & group of Indian, Eastern European or black (highly unlikely I know) youths are walking towards me I only become moderately more alert than usual. But if they're baseball hat wearing little white pikies, I have my keys clenched in my hand ready in case something kicks off.

However, when I'm walking through Woolwich where I work, I adopt the "be prepared to hit & run" approach for any group walking towards me, regardless of race, colour, age (or even sex!)

I would be more interested if the subject of Racism was put to one side, and the original question discussed.

STEWARDS [color:"black"]

As the guy says, you wouldnt park your car on double yellow lines - why do some of you deliberately flout the stadium rules by standing in the yellow boxed areas? There's plenty of space elsewhere in the ground.

I guess the stadium/club could enforce even more strict rules on passageways, etc - how many other clubs, for example, dont allow fans to stand right by the perimeter walls,so they leave a clear gangway(Barnet springs to mind for a start).

If an entrance needs to be left open it would be surely be better if it were at the home end - more likely that home fans will be late than away fans I would have thought - if someone arrives 10 or 15 minutes after the start, why should they have to miss another 5 minutes walking round the ground to gain entry.

And, as has been stated - rules are there for a reason - if we expect the Stewards to be fair and sensible in their handling of situations, then its only reasonable that we act in the same manner as fans.

Whoever went into the box and was told to get out, got what he deserved. But the steward who told someone he couldn't walk through the away fans to the other side of the Ground should have showed common sense.......If he couldn't see whether the fans were likely to start trouble....He shouldn't be a Steward!

He should have walked the supporter through the crowd to the other side! Don't tell me he had to stay on that spot because he was told to, i'm sure there was more than one Steward there, if there wasn't..The whole thing was a joke anyway!

Your actions represent personal experience and a personal representation of how a situation may unfold. To say that you find baseball cap called young white males more of a threat than members of other ethnic groups doesn’t necessarily mean that they are.
