Full Time???

Does Canvey have any solid plans of going Full Time? because it would be a shame for you to lose players such as Jonny Keeling due to doing so.

What are your thoughts on this. A full time sqaud or just 12-15 full time players?

Evening Dizz. I think to compete in the Conference at a competitive level we will need to go full time but not just yet. In the past the likes of Daggers and this season Crawley have shown you can be part time and do OK in the Conference but every season it gets harder.

If we go full time then the likes of Wardy and obviously Jonny will leave. It may have to be a gradual process with some going full time and others part time. I think Billericay currently have this policy and it seems to be working quite well for them.

Its not just the players it may mean more permanent back room staff.

Also Jeff is a business man so may not have the time to commit to full time football.

I also assume that Glenn is employed elsewhere or has other interests and may also struggle to cover a fulltime or part/full time combination.

I think if you want to succeed at this level and maintain a foothold in the league if promoted then you need to be full time - the question is can a part time club with limited amenities and small fan base afford to make the jump to full time - personally I doubt it. At best we should be hoping to top the pile of Conf. Nat. teams that are truely part time such as Tamworth, Burton, Gravesend etc.

Could perhaps the players train with Southend for instance? Purely from a fitness point of view. Perhaps a case of consolidating in the conf nat for a few years and go from there would be better. Or even when you get a new ground. (is that still in the pipeline?)

a new ground with decent training facilites and crowds approaching at least 1500 would be a must first i think.. i agree with a non e mouse that aiming to be up there with the good part time teams should come first.. the southend idea is a good one but i have no idea what the working relationship is between the clubs .. if, as looks likely southend go up and there is no immediate danger of a clash then closer ties wth them could help with loan players etc
