it is only an abreviation. i.e burnham or abbey. if you want everyone to write enfield town then you have to write waltham abbey or burnham ramblers..how do you like thos apples!!!

No, because they can't be confused with other clubs at around the same level (although there is another Burnham, but they don't ramble.)

Who else could Abbey be if not Waltham Abbey? And so on. So, it is reasonable to refer to Brentwood as just Brentwood, and not Brentwood Town, because there is not a club just called Brentwood. The Dundee analogy is a good one.

Of course there is a club called Sheffield..........

"Abbey" could mean....."Abbey Villa Football Club" of the Northern Amateur Football League (div 1A).....or Cambridge United's predecessor which was called "Abbey United" until 1951.....or perhaps it would be even easier to get Waltham Abbey confused with....."Abbey Rangers Girls Football Club"?!

Some may also be confused by "Burnham". Is this a reference to the giants of non-league football, "Burnham Market Football Club"? Burnham Market FC

Ah, the wonders of Google!

I do take your point, BN1. I know who you mean when you say Enfield on this board. Anyway, without wishing to kick off another argument on who is the "True Enfield", many Towners feel we are the only club worth the name Enfield, we are the true successors etc etc. But seeing as both Enfields play at Level 5 it's probably worth distinguishing between the two. Those lovely folk at Wealdstone do - they refer to us as Turncoats or Enfield Turn, which must be nice for them in their bitter little world, but at least they specify which one they hate!

This is a bit reasonable for me, on reflection. Short answer: yah boo sucks to you, matey! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
