Colin Lippiatt

I hear from a statto chum that the manager's 33 points from 18 games at the helm, an average of 1.833333333333 per game, puts the chap in 8th place on the all-time record of all 44 managers in the history of the Mighty Saints, ahead by some margin of some pretty highly qualified, and in some cases well thought of, other chaps.

Unfortunately he won't ever reach the number 1 slot, held by a chap with a 100% record. Played 1, won 1, I gather.

"Colin Lippiatt's yeller blue army" [repeat to fade].

Hi Helski.

A quiz question! Who was the manager of The Mighty Saints for but one game, which the team won, before it was decided that his services were no longer required?

Statistically the most successful manager in the long and proud history of St Albans City Football Club. Cast aside after a 100% success rate. For all I know, he may be enjoying a pension and a club Ferrari for life at some eventide home for football managers in a quiet seaside resort on the South Coast. Where is he now? Is there any bitterness at the fickle way in which this great chap was treated by the board. Perhaps he shakes his head with a wry smile when he sees the plaudits heaped upon Colin Lippiatt with his paltry 1.8333333333 points per game average, and 8th place in the role of honour, let alone those of his successors who couldn't manage a single point average. Perhaps when he hears the football results read by James Alexander Gordon, [and is reminded, if any reminder be needed, in an obscure way of Clarence Park,] in Sports Report on his bakelite wireless on a Saturday afternoon, he quietly says to a passing stranger in a voice barely above a whisper "Three". Does he dream of the place in Europe that would certainly have followed within 5 seasons if he had been left at the helm and maintained that remarkable rate of return? A knighthood, surely? Never having to buy a drink? A free season ticket for life?

Err.... Er... Where was I Hel? Oh yes. I remember. Answers on a postcard.

O.K., O.K.

The prize for the first correct answer was a two week holiday in Benidorm, an Usher CD and a Chinese takeaway, which have not been claimed so wont feature in Saturday's player interview in the matchday programme. [Oh, by the way. Did anybody other than me buy a programme last week? In keeping with tradition, the player interview was with Liam George.]

Anyway. The answer to the question is......

Barry Nevill, who filled the post in the interregnum of those two all-time greats, Alan Randall and Jimmy Neighbour.

It's on the floor from what I remember. Agree that those tables are awful.
