Interesting article in tonight's echo Gc talking about Joe Baker:

Soccer: Calder - Baker may need new challenge

Billericay Town boss Gary Calder has admitted that Joe Baker might benefit from a change of scene.

Baker burst upon the New Lodge action in style two years ago when he joined the club after being a pro with Leyton Orient and soon established himself as a crowd hero with a string of superb displays.

However, after getting himself a job in the carpentry trade -- when he joined he was not working -- Baker struggled to reproduce his best form for much of last season.

Now this term, with Calder having made a string of outstanding summer signings, Baker has had to look on from the bench as Billericay won each of their first two games in the Ryman League Premier Division.

Calder said: "Joe would love to reproduce the form he showed when he joined us -- and obviously that's what we all want as well.

"Joe and I have had many long chats about the problem, but there comes a time when the talking has to stop. He works very hard in training and never shirks anything, but we all know that we haven't seen the best of him for some time now.

"We're certainly not giving up on Joe, but it may well be that he'd benefit from a change of scene and that a move would do him good."

Calder admitted that, despite the fact that his side are joint top with maximum points, they had yet to reach their full potential -- or indeed match some of their impressive pre-season friendly displays.
