Barnet game

Another defeat but an OK performance. With only Junior up front we had very few shots on goal but in fairness to Barnet although they dominated possesion they created very little and were a bit dissapointing. Unfortunately the only goal came from a header by Ben Strevens on 57 minutes and that was enough to win them the game.

At the back Dom, Wardy and Smithy were excellent and cleared everything with the minimum of fuss. Created very few chances ourselves. Junior hit a shot wide and Sedgy thumped an effort straight at the keeper but Ash at the other end had very little to do except catch a few crosses and deal with some tame shots.

Crowd of over 3,700 made it a real party atmosphere. Thought the Canvey support was excellent today. Got behind the team from the start and the 5 minute non stop chanting of Yellow Army at the end was superb. Think the players and management really appreciated it.

Forest Green drew but with Northwich losing heavily we are still 7 points above the drop zone. Vics do have a game in hand on us but seem to have hit a real rut. I have a sneaking feeling that Forest Green might just stay up and Vics go down.

That last minute Lee Boylan equaliser against them in February might just prove to be absolutely crucial.

Thought we were superb today. going into the game i wasn't expecting anything but i feel a bit gutted not comeing away with a point which i feel would of been deserved.

As you say yellow, canvey support was excellent today. we sung our hearts out for the lads (what a difference a drum makes) and the lads on the field responded with putting in a good performance.

though it was an nice gesture by KINGY ringing a fellow supporter that was on the coach to thank us lot for the constanting singing.

If we keep battling like we did today for the rest of the season we will have know worries about going down.

COME ON YOU YELLOWS

It was a better atmosphere than I have seen for a while and it felt good to be part of the crowd today, better than it has been for some time lets do that at home and away until the end of the season.

I was up in the Main Stand yesterday and until we scored, Canvey were as loud if not louder than the East Terrace counterparts. There were 112 away fans (although 20 or so were Barnet fans in there due to the home section of the East Terrace being closed) and they kept up a good level of noise for a good percentage of the game. I blame the poor game on the poor atmosphere, but that's a really crap excuse considering our league position.

Although to be fair on ourselves, the whole ground rendition of 'We're On Our Way' must have been rather loud!

away from home.. no one thinking we could win.. out performing what most fans expected (i.e. us losing by 2 plus goals)..

meanwhile the home fans expecting to win in what was a game of few chances ?(i was at work so can really commment).. big easter crowd so lots of part time home fans ..

its a recipe for a quieter than normal home singing performace.. as we well know from some of our games towards the end of last years ryman campaign ..

good luck to barnet in the league.. they have done well to piss this league considering the likes of hereford, carlisle aldershot et al are currently in it and desperate to get out

Definitely bring the drum Saturday. I can see Exeter bringing quite a few on Saturday so we'll need to be at our best and get behind the team right from the start.

Did seem to be a few glory boys there. The ones behind the goal nearest our section were so quiet. They seemed mostly kids but half of them didn't seem interested in the game!!

The drum certainly helped create a great atmosphere. Missed Freds trumpet though.

I was singing along merrily at Barnet - and have done so at away games when possible. I don't mind joining in at away games although I don't tend to stand near the lads that start it - I just join in. I tend to stand away from the guys singing in the ground at Park Lane so don't sing at home games. It was also good being in a terraced stand at Barnet that resonated the sound a bit.

Can you imagine telling other teams that a handfull of Canvey fans sang as loud, if not louder than Barnet at Underhill - they would choke after a fit of laughter <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

The kids behind the goal were guests from Whetstone Wanderers youth(the young ones running around the pitch at half-time)

Unlucky today Canvey, i think the reason the atmosphere wasnt great was because you guys frustrated the crowd, most people were expecting a good performance and a few goals from Barnet because we have played really well and scored loads of goals at home in most games this season and Canveys recent form, but it just didnt happen we were lathargic and offside most of the time in the first half though mainly down to Canveys organisation and hard work, considering all the players you had missing it really was a good performance from you, i have seen you before at Hitchin a few times and you looked class so i wasnt as surprised as some how well you played. The way you played saturday you looked up for the fight and will stay up easy.Good luck.
