Nathan Elder...

Recommended Posts

If he is credited with two goals today, that means he has now scored 12 in the league since joining us. Quite remarkable really, considering he joined from a lower division and hes only been here since December. Joining him at the top of the scoring charts are Hockers with 11 and Cousins with 13.

Yep, top marks to Justin and the scouting network, whatever it took to get him, it was a real steal. He is very young and having seen him today for only the third time, he looks like he has developed under the better and more regular coaching already. Tell you what though, have to mention Wareham as well, if Nathan had Ross' first touch and Ross had Nathan's finishing, I think we would have the most dangerous strikeforce at this level. Both are young and hopefully they will stick around and continue to develop their games. What is so endearing about both is their top notch attitutde. Both have had spells on the bench, but whenever they cross that white line, they look hungry. Like James says, hopefully we can keep hold of him (and in my opinon, Ross) for a long time to come. If this club is looking at long term progression (and I am sure that under the current ownership, which is showing serious progress - to be massively applauded) we need to keep hold of lads like the one's on the pitch today as well as Justin, Steve Kent and the backroom staff, who quite clearly care about the club - We are going places right now and it feels good.

Totally agree, heard an interview with Justin on BBC Essex after the game and he said he'd had his eye on Nathan for quite some time. An absolutely top notch signing. You only have to look at him pointing to his badge and rushing towards the fans to see he enjoys playing for this club. I think that goes for a lot of other players too, which is one of the biggest reasons behind our current success imo.

I agree about Ross too, absolutely love the guy, and the attitude is always spot on from the guys, even though they might feel they should be strating, when they get their chance they do the talking on the pitch, and enjoy their football. Keep it up lads.

nathan and Ross both chase after everything, and in the last two games nathan has won the ball when other forwards would have let the defender or keeper take some time and clear the ball. Fans love players that chase what seems a lost cause and these two boys will run and run for you. I hope the club gets them signed up so that we can keep hold of them.

The really bizarre stat about Nathan is the number of times he's "bagged a brace" this season.

By my reckoning he's got 14 goals (12 in the league, 2 in the EFC) of which 12 have come in 6 pairs:

vs

Southend Manor (EFC)

Leyton (as a sub)

Kingstonian

Cheshunt

Wealdstone (as a sub)

Chelmsford

Overall he has scored 12 goals from 11 starts and 7 substitute appearances in the league, 14 in 14 starts and 7 subs in all competitions. For the record he scored "just the one" against Slough and Harrow.

With Hockers out of the frame at the moment, our strikers have an average age of just 21-22... Cuz has notched a goal every other game in the league, despite playing about half his games on the wing whilst Rossy and Armstrong have both made telling contributions without necessarily getting the goals. Keep it up lads!
