full or part-time?

Recommended Posts

Many a true word is said in jest gentlemen.

Is it just me or is the Conf. National just another division for "league clubs" who have failed? As more of them drop out of the league there will be less and less true non-league part time clubs - in fact the only ones in about 8 years time will be those promoted that season from Conf N. or S. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />the rest will be ex-league.

Well we will just have to get promoted next year as the only part time team in the league then wont we.

Seriously is there any part timers in the league, has there ever been partimers in the league that did anything of note..

I think Crawley are still part time and they have done well this season. Aldershot were part time last year and were a penalty shootout away from a return to the League.

The League is getting stronger and stronger though with every season with 2 ex-league club coming down. Eventually we will have to go full-time to compete in this league.

dagenham were part time when they just missed out.. northfleet had some ludicrous unbeaten run as part timers that would have seen them in the playoffs if it hadnt gone from mid season to mid season..

and of course canvey will finish with 6 wins on the spin as part timers

If your talking about part timers in the Football League then yes. Wimbledon won promotion as part timers an stayed that way for a few seasons I believe. Although I agree it is a very different world now.

full time in front of 1300 fans seems a bit silly to me.. sure im all for the 'build it and they will come ' attitude.. but full time football in the conf is surely only viable for the likes of carlisle , hereford, exeter and aldershot...

Apparently our full-time will be a mixture of full-time and part-time to start off with, thus allowing us to keep our better players who wish to stay part-time.

Also, our chairman states that it doesn't rely on attendances.....

It must be remembered that being an ex-league club has many problems indeed. For example generally they have very old grounds that cost a fortune just to keep going and are not financially viable with the smaller crowds. Therefore traditional non-league clubs may have some advantage due to being better adapted.
