I think if we get one against Charlton then the crowds should come. If Charlton make it into Europe this season and they can guaruntee its a fullish squad they will put out then people will come. Even if they don't get into Europe its still a premiership side, unlike Norwich lol

It wasn't that long ago that our three home pre-season friendlies were Arsenal, West Ham and Spurs.

Arsenal brought down a very strong squad and entered into the spirit of what was I believe a testimonial by drawing 4:4

Of course Gravesend being Gravesend the match wasn't advertised and hardly anyone turned up to watch it.

I have a programme from when we played the @rse in 1960 or 61. Not really a programme just a sheet of paper. We also attracted such clubs as Forrest, who were holders of the European cup (now the Champions League) so that wasn't to be take lightly and we also played Derby who were nearly european champs at the time. Perhaps Cloughie had an affection for our club.

The Forest visit came about for the official opening of our new floodlights. There was a link between Cloughie's assistant, Colin Murphy, and our club - hence they agreed to come and bring a full first team, even though it was during the season proper.

What a moment as well, when we scored the opening goal - the place erupted !! Never mind that they then proceeded to give a real example of quality footie, and put 6 past us, it was a great night.

I've seen the Arsenal game on a tape.

I saw it about 6-7 years ago so I must've been around 10. My mum's boyfriend showed it to me and I recall seeing Kevin Campbell play. I think there were a few other well-known players playing too.

I was shown another game, but I can't remember who that was against.

There was a friendly about 10 years ago against Arsenal, in which Eddie McGoldrick and Alan Miller played. It think we lost 3-0, so clearly this is a different match to the one to which Slarti is referring.

Been wondering if we're gonna have the Gills pre-season fixture this year. It's been a regular feature for a few years now but with the breakdown of relations between Brian and the Sc***y can we expect one this time? Personally I think it'd be great, there are so many songs we could sing.....
