Carlisle

YELLOW

Don't really want to say too much about this game. The result and performance was depressing and the fact I decided to go on the beers after the game has meant this match report is not as good as usual.

We hardly had a shot in anger at their goal and whilst Ollie's sending off was totally justified I think Danny was rather harshly sent off. Carlisle went in front after ten minutes thanks to an excellent finish from Chris Lumsdon. Their second goal was scored by Holmes but looked an own goal after a miss kick from Dave Mcghee.

Ollie was sent off for a two footed lunge and probably deserved to go. Soon after Danny was sent off for a second yellow. The striker seemed to take a dive but after Danny had been booked earlier for dissent the ref decided to show him a second yellow.

Chris Lumsdon stepped up to score the resultant penalty.

In the second half we showed a lot odf spirit but kind of got the impression that Carlisle were content with the result and settled with what they had.

Ash who came on as a sub keeper made some excellent saves and credit must go to the Yellow Army who stayed to the end and cheered and sang the team off the pitch. It would have been so easy to have walked out before the end but those who stayed deserve credit. I think the players appreciated it at the end.

Rather worrying is the knock Lee Boylan took midway through the second half. He will be out of Monday's game I imagine and he seemed to be holding his side and in some pain when I saw him in the bar after the match.

Not a good day really.

Very disappointed in Lee, he brought the injury on himself. I was standing behind the goal and saw him launch himself at the keeper several times with no intention or chance of getting the ball.

Couldn't really see the Ollie challenge from where I was so no comment on that on. Danny was unfortunate but you just have to assume that the officials don't have a sense of humour. The second yellow was definitely harsh and personally I didn't think it was a penalty. Still he paid for a silly mistake that got him the first yellow.

Can't understand why Jeff took of Keeling, I thought he was our only decent player, and Jeff Minton as got to learn to go forward. All that dribbling looks good but he only gets away with it becasue the opposition are happy to let him have the possession as they force him across the pitch and let him run out of space at the touchline.

One more point, and at the risk of being repetitive - 3-5-2 just doesn't work at this level, we need 4-4-2, with JK at right back, Wardy and Dave Theobald in the middle, and Duffers at left back.

keeling was taken off as his been injured as was duffy hence why he was sub.no point risking keelo in a game that we had already lost in,good to see those of us who stayed and really cheered the team off the pitch.ollie has no excuse for his sending off but danny just should not have thrown the ball at the lino wether it was for a joke or not

Well that did not go quite according to plan, did it! A few more supporters through the turnstile, but not the performance to make many of those want to come back you would of thought.

Won’t say too much as will make a separate post with thoughts on a way out of this.

What the hell was up with Pottsy? Heard him yell at someone towards the clubhouse, assume he heard something, and the the next thing, he is out of the area. He fouls the forward, but then throws the ball at the lino. He seemed to calm down after that but was then unlucky by their cheating forward who must of flung hinself to the ground 5 yards past Pottsy’s arm. I thought the ref was going to card the cheat bt instead gave a pen and Potter was off.

Ollie – It says something that he has been perhaps one of the better performers for the club this season. Not up to this level like many others and it really helps when he gets sent off when we re already down. No brain!

How did Minton get the Canvey MoM award? Thought that Dave or Dom were better canidates. Seems like one of those favourite higher player profile decisions!

In truth, there are quite a few players past their sell by date now, Minton, Junior included. In fact with Minton I have always wondered that through all his skill, the league teams he has played for have struggled and when we played against him in the PortVale or Brighton games, we either beat them or took then to a replay. He is noticed when he is on the ball but I wonder if his lack of other qualities of a midfield player are bad for team at the higher level.

We could not live in the air wih their Number 9 Holmes today.

Although it did not go down well, can see why Jeff brough Kilo off. We were never going to get back in it being 3-0 down with nine men and saving energy for the next game was a good move.

Not much more I can add to yesterday's game only credt to Carlisle in taking their foot of the peddle for the 2nd half.

I thought we could be looking at 7 or 8 but they decided to just play the ball around for the 2nd half.

The only good thing baout yesterday is all the other teams in the elegation area lost so its a case of as you were. We could in theory not win another game this season and still stay up but i hope it wont come to that.

I agree with POB, why was Minton MOM, he didnt move from where i was watching, as for him being a captain who picked that, a captain needs to be heard giving encouragement to players, i believe that mad dog should be captain his voice is always the loadest giving out commands and encouragement. I also think potters sending of was a disgrace, the player that dived should of worn a tutu as well, but the ref woudl probably not of even spotted that. ollies challange was quite frankly stupid and did deserve to go off, as one of the yellow army shouted what you clapping him for was straight the point. Ashley, i thought played a blinder in the 2nd half after a few dodgy first touches, he soon found his form and made a couple of great saves.

I assume he will go straight back in but this must be Ashley’s golden chance to re-establish himself as the keeper.

Can’t remember what game it was (may have been Boreham Wood) but he was sent off a couple of seasons ago and Danny came on and saved the resulting pen. We may have gone on to win the game 1-0 after that. Since then its been all Danny with Ash looking rather shaky when given any opportunity.

It was indeed Boreham Wood. Ash was sent off after just a few minutes and we went on to win 1-0.

Still prefer Danny in goal but Ash is a decent keeper and has proved to be an able replacement for Danny.

Its all about opinions and for what it is worth apart from free kicks just outside the box (seems to be danny's weakness) I believe Danny is far better than Ash. Bigger presence commands his 6 yards more and is more decisive. Communicates with his defence better also.

I feel we have two very talented keepers.

Ash has certainly done well against Carlisle and Barnet. Agree with MOB Ash is a fine shot stopper but his confidence did seem to take a knock in the past. Danny does seem to have a weakness from set pieces.

Danny is far better at commanding his area and is far more vocal - can't really remember hearing Ash at Barnet - although it may have been down to the noise made by the Yellow Army <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />
