"Ask the Chairman" - web commentary on Good Friday

Recommended Posts

In answer to the question about website commentary from home games, the answer really is a question of whether it is worth it. There aren't that many listeners when we do the away commentaries, but we do it as a service, and it is worth us doing it. But for home games I would imagine most of those fans listening to away games are at the match so we'd be doing all that work for maybe a few dozen people, unless it was a game where I thought there would be a more general interest (such as FA Trophy quarter final)

OK that isn't a very good answer for the people who are abroad, to which I apologise, but if we were to do a web commentary every week we would probably do another club who were away.

Hope you understand.

Matt/Greenie/Chas,

love the show

For those of us that can't travel to the long away matches and spend half our winter Saturdays glued to the internet a big thank you.

6) Can we have a progress update regarding Beauwaters situation?

There was something interesting about this on the front page of today's free KM Extra (yes I know 'free newspaper' and 'interesting' seems paradoxical ). The Messenger is apparently campaigning for local boys' football teams to be allowed to carry on using Beauwaters, after the Fleet and the council reached an agreement for the pitches to be used exclusively by Fleet youth teams.

Questions :

1) Is it really sensible to talk about going full time with the low crowds that we get.

2) How are we planning to increase our fanbase to the required level, to financially support a lower league full time club.

3) I will not be renewing my season ticket next season, as long as the policy of no replacements for lost books is in place. Why have the club taken this stance.

When surely a replacement for an admin cost is a sensible fan friendly approach.

Finally 1 last question :

If Gillinghams plan to move to Gravesham gathers pace, is the best way to fight it thru' the ballot box or maybe civil disobedience like protests etc or just old fashioned violence. Or would it be a mixture of all 3.

SS – Couldn’t agree with you more SS. I’ve posted quite a few messages on these forums in the past about this subject and I’ve virtually given up in the last few months because people would rather predict Gillingham’s failure should the move go ahead instead of concentrating on enhancing our own position in the borough.

Every time I’ve suggested that we should be going on the offensive now and trying to increase our support before the move, there’s always been cretins who aren’t interested in bringing this club forward and would rather chat about how Gillingham’s gates will be 6,000 or whatever.

Only advice I would give you is watch what you type on these forums. You cannot speak as openly on here as you can in a pub so don’t say anything here which you wouldn’t say in front of a policeman.

Re Anon -

I think that Sammy S is not actually saying or advocating anything , he is just posing a question to the chairman for his views.

And you can ask that question in front of the finest members of HM's force.

Its in the answering of the question that you need to be careful !!

In order to get full time football at Stonebridge road, realistically we need gates of 2500 or more. I would like to hear Brians views on how we can make that achievable.

Well done Greenie and Brian.

Nice to see that the questions from this thread were put to Brian and that he didn't duck them, he will never be a politician.

Great idea for half time and given that one of the questions was about poor communications a good way Brian to let us know whats happening.

Also Brian isn't a pretty shrewd judge for player of the year.

WW, I wasn't suggesting that he was. Just thought I'd add that comment before anyone did suggest anything on here that they shouldn't. I'm sure you know where I'm coming from - could apply to anyone.

To be honest I have lost all faith in the club ever attracting regualr gates of anything over 1500 - It just won't happen the way things are going.
