Honeymoon Period

Well said Alan. And as someone already pointed out, the his record so far has shown an improvement. The FA trophy was disappointing, but that's a cup competition and tbh anything can happen in them. I'm sure that with a continued improvement in results, the team will begin to actually display some good football with a little confidence. Well to early to judge.

Alan, if we had anything else to play for this season then putting out a weakened team in the KSC would be understandable but we don't.

We are currently the senior non-league team in Kent and in the semi-final of the KSC we put out our schoolboys...if this is a worthless competion then it is because we have devalued it. That is no reflection on Dover or Margate/Folkestone, whoever wins it certainly deserves it more than we do.

If our management believes that the KSC is beneath us then we should not enter it, if the Kent football association has any balls we should not be given the choice, personally I'd kick us out.

You probably don't know this as I think I hid my dissapointment fairly well but I was pretty upset over Tuesday's team selection but whats done is done and yes we should all get behind Liam and the boys for tommorrows game.

I hope that after a good few games of next season none of us will be criticising Liam's approach, time will tell.

Exactly right as usual Slarti - just as I argued in the original KSC thread.

Surely we must wake up and see now that Diash's honeymoon period is over and he is pants!!
Last night was a joke and so was the Stortford Game.

DAISH OUT!! Who's with me??

Well it has been a while since we had a "Who's with me thread but I'm not so sure, I'll give it 'til the end of the season and see how I feel then. If I feel okay about it then we'll arange to meet up and burn down his house.

Another point to take in consideration regarding the KSC, is I believe a 35 day suspension for a red card, ruling out a player for the rest of the season

The competition was devalued a long time before last Tuesday night.

Clubs have often put out weakened teams in the Competition and without Gills/Millwall/Charlton, who all decided the competition no longer merited their attention several years ago really has little value other than the "We won a trophy this season" one.

Most fans decided long ago that the competition is hardly worth the paper its written on - a crowd of just over 300 at Dover on Tuesday, and even fewer than that in the previous game at Tnbridge , show that to be true.

Those attendances are no more than the GLS Cup, which has been heavily criticised for its existence and I didnt hear the same level of complaint when we went out of that competition.

I think the Kent FA basically run their competition these days as they feel obliged to do so. They should either really "go for it" and somehow revamp the cpetition into a higher profile event (but as that probably means upsetting the "big boys" of the County, by insisting they enter and play a full strength side (and/or raising the prize money significantly), surely this wont happen) or they should forget history, and scrap the competition altogether. (which is , I guess, just as unlikely).

I'm not saying this purely because we're out - its always disappointing to lose and I, as much as the next person enjoyed our previous recent wins in the competition - but simply because its the truth.

I am not saying we are the only team to devalue the competition or the first team to do so but as the most senior team in this years competition we are the guilty party this season.

If anyone out there wants to think with their heads rather than their hearts we have two achievable targets next season, one is avoiding relegation and the other is winning the KSC it may not be the best competion but it is winnable.

Obviously the first is much more important than the second but they are not mutually exclusive.

Prior to this season I would have had the Trophy at number two but we will never have a kinder draw or a better chance to win the Trophy than this year and we weren't good enough.

If we are not interested in the KSC we should not enter it however bwe should remember that a short time ago when we won the cup against Dover and Margate they were the big conference teams and we were the minnows...fortunes change very quickly in football and there is no guarantee that ours won't change like theirs.

However, a small point to be made here must be that, on a thread regarding morons calling for a new manager's departure, we must remember the Daish isn't the first Fleet manager to crash out of the KSC on a sour note. Fordy didn't win the competition in our first two years in the Conference, so I put it to you that it is the club's own prima donna attitude as a team at the top of the non-league pile, rather than an error of judgement on Liam's part, that has led to a downturn in our KSC performances.

Probably because at the time there was still potentially something for us to play for in the league, and because that night we put out a reasonably strong line-up. Of course, us putting out weakened sides in the KSC is not exactly a new phenomenon, with Andy having done so for the previous two seasons, but with our fate in the league pretty much sealed, it was disappointing to see such a weakened line-up. As Slarti says, the fact we did this as (by league position) the biggest side in this season's competition only serves to enhance the effect of destroying such competitions.

Indeed Daish's Honemoon is over and now he has to face 1,200 "mother-in-laws" every week !

Welcome to Stonebridge Road Liam !

I also agree with the boys above, after tactically cocking up the Bishop Stortford match and ending our best ever chance to get to a Trophy Final, why not give us all a day out in the KSC Final - Thanks very much Liam for fielding a boys team at Dover!
