Friendly - Or is it ?

Recommended Posts

Played a good game against Southend Manor last night . Some decent football by both sides on a minging pitch contributed to a half decent match. However was a little peeved with the fact that some manor players thought it was a league game and went around kicking lumps out of anything that moved . also players being told if they are seen talking to an opponent they will be subbed . This begs the question is there no such thing as a "friendly" any more?? Maybe the word friendly should be replaced . Surely a "friendly" in march with 7/8 games to go for both teams is a chance for fringe players to get games and managers to look at different formations which might get them an extra few points come the end of the season ?

Do Manor players know any different? Over 4 years I've yet to see any Manor team that didn't do that - no matter who was manager at the time. Is it the seaside air or something?

i didnt expect anything less from you mim as i know you dont wanna be controversial to your good mate steve , fair point . People dont arrange friendlies with local sides so they can earn bragging rights . I knew what we were gonna get from some of those boys last night , but they should have some common sense. I had a perfectly good chance to go right through stanesy when easterford left a back-header short but i pulled back as i didnt wanna put me studs in garys face , firstly because he is a good friend and secondly because what was the point . if the same situation arose on a saturday in a league game i would have gone flying in to get that ball . i can draw the line between friendly and competitive game , some of them could not.

Yes i completely see your point fella and cannot agree anymore but its the way some players play. For example if you take that part out of someone likes Leekie's game what does he have left.

Boris has let me know his feelings and they are that you guys arranged the friendly knowing what sort of performance you would get from his guys. If they tried to play football against you they would have come off a big second best. He also noted next season that is what you will have to come to terms with week in week out if you are in the ESL next season and that you will come up against alot better sides then them, namely, Romford, Enfield Town, Concord, Bowers, actually not Bowers!!! ha ha!

wakering won 2-1 fella . MIM , i take your point about leekie fella i think maybe you are right there . Dont get me wrong , there were 85-90% of the manor boys who played the game in the right spirit , stanesy, micky burrows, easterford, kempy, ryan hogdson just off the top of my head but you always get a few who think that a friendly is not actually a friendly !!

Yeah but that is because they are looking to prove themselves to other people that they can match Wakering players and thats how they go about it. Bottom line MMIM is that people with less ability like myself have to play to their strengths which is not always pretty football, but tackling heading etc.
