Homely Homelands

Is it just me or are there others out there who actually like going to Homelands every other week. I feel the atmosphere and surroundings are so much better than Dover. Indeed the top end nearest the cafe has a slight resemblance in atmosphere to the coffin end at Harts' I like the friendly staff there. The bar is very nice the loos very clean and the pitch not the best at times does at least have a look of Hartsdown about it. I know for me its only forty miles from Dartford but i feel cosy there in a strange sort of way. I wonder if the players prefer it to Dover too. The food looks much better too. Dover was so dark depressing and featureless. I know we lost 100 fans relocating to Ash but i do like the atmoshere better. Perhaps its just the hard core now of real enthusiasts or has it got something else . I'd be interested in your opinions guys. I must say the support vocally there has often been more aimed at the team and not at thre oppo or cruidities at the oppo fans. Whil'st your replying do you think like me that from 8 games we need a minimum of three wins and a draw. From some where! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Sorry Geoff but I dislike it there. To really see the game and to be able to judge things better there is no better way than to be up in the stands looking down. A worms eye view dosent do that. Got no qualms about the other aspects that you mention though.

I think we'd all prefer to be playing in Margate Cookie. But if the decision to play at Ashford has saved our club (my guess is that the decision has been instrumental in doing that from a cost perspective) then it's a sacrifice worth making. I think the facilities at Homelands are very good (not withstadning the lack of height on the terraces). I'd fully support Geoff's view on the people at Ashford - they have welcomed us all season. Here's hoping that they don't go down. A facility like Homelands and club with the potential of Ashford should not be plying their trade in the Kent League (although I bet they are licking their lips at the prospect!).

I dislike traveling to ashford imensly and the ground isnt of the best quality, haveing said that i have to agree the staff and the odd ashford fan's that i have talked to there are briliant peeps.

In a way i will miss homelands when we eventualy do leave it but the sooner we are home the better.

Goeff, Ashford is OK with me and slightly better than Dover, but I think that the pitch is worse. We do seem to prefer a decent pitch to play on and come unstuck when they are poor, e.g. Walton and Hornchurch.

It's just over 60 miles for me from Surrey and a better trip than Dover. I would still prefer the 80 miles to Hartsdown.

At this stage I agree with you about the points. I am sure that 10 more will see us safe. We will be lucky to get 1 this weekend, particularly if Nej is in goal on Monday, so it will be real crunch time for the last few games.

I'd also like to add that i think it has less to do with where we play but more how we are bonding as a fan base, which this essentially is. We can take this spirit back to HDP and then watch us fly up the tables!

Didnt I hear that Trego will get just the one match ban in which case he will be available for Mondays clash with the best away team in our division,Cam.City. If that is correct then Nej wll be in goal on Friday v Grays only. I am open to correction on that one.

From the FA site:

Peter David Trego
Suspended from ALL FOOTBALL until the Club have completed 1 FIRST TEAM match for a Sending Off in a match played on 12/03/2005.
Start date: 26/03/2005

As I understand it, the ban starts a fortnight after the offence, so Trego would play at Grays and miss Cambridge. I also heard PT might be reported to the FA for comments to the linesman after Saturday's goal.

And can we please get behind Nej when he plays instead of Peter, even if only for those three superb saves he made after PT got sent off being injured in his knee and all at the time, plus he has warmed the bench on every game even though injured or having scant chance for a run out. He is one of ours, after all.

Havent seen him in action as much as you MF but what I have seen hasn't been too impressive but then again,as you say he has stuck it out and all praise to him for that. Cant think of many that would really crucify him on the strength of a few minutes play here and there. Now he has a chance to shine so lets hope he he shows us what a good stand in keeper he can be. Wonder who would be replacement keeper should anything happen to him during the game, god forbid.

I dont mind Ashford nice bar friendly people just the poxy journey. Plus the fact it has further reduced our once good fanbase. Think three wins is a must to give us any chance. As for Nej allways claps the fans after every game hope he takes his oppourtunity and has a blinder.
