Sodje has joined Welling from Charlton, the exact terms of the deal are unknown but we can assume it is a loan deal or something similar. Charlton speak very highly of the young striker, who comes from a background of highly talented footballers.

 

"Onome Sodje took the U17 FA Premier Academy League by storm in the 2003/04 season, sensationally netting 14 goals despite starting just 19 games. A front man of the bouncy, athletic variety, the former Sedgehill School pupil sampled both U17 and U19 football while still a schoolboy and his tremendous physical abilities meant that he never looked out of his depth against older opponents.

 

With an explosive turn of pace in his locker, the Nigerian-born marksman - who was denied the chance to go to the pre-season Lyngby Cup because of passport difficulties - also has a brilliant spring and always poses a major aerial threat from free-kicks and corners. A tidy finisher to boot, striker Sodje's control and awareness of those around him will be the main things the club's academy coaches will be striving to work on over the next two seasons.

 

But the Abbey Wood-based scholar remains a player of some potential and, with an exceptional first season in academy football under his belt, is certainly one to keep an eye on."
