Recommended Posts

Just wrote a long post about the game and my feckin computer crashed, so im buggered if im doing that again.

Team

Capleton

Henty Pat Macca Kerrigan

Game (Oxby) Forbes Hunter Dormer

Armstrong Cuz (Ross)

First half very scrappy, noone created much, Cuzs mishit shot went in just before half time.

Second half much better, Ross finished from short range after a nice move to seal the win.

Good ravelling support, including Gothard Gallagher and Hockton

Ref and linesman both absolute disgrace, recieved a torrent of obscenities from myself and many others

Me: fking knackered

Well it was a scrappy game...don't know if it was the pitch (bobbly at best...holes filled with sand, at worst) or the change of weather (was it hot on the pitch?) but if we can take 3 points off of poor opposition like Tonbridge without flexing our muscles, I'll take it!!!

It was fairly obvious from where I was standing it wouldn't've taken a lot of effort for us to stamp our authority on the game and roll on over Tonbridge but we didn't...cruised and won...

With Boretree having to draw at Salisbury, Eastleigh winning, we're all poised on the same points waiting to see if Yeading stumble...again...and they have yet to play us and Boretree...(billed as the title decider on the Boretree forum...one would laugh but that is giving them far too much credit!!! Actually I did laugh...cried tears of laughter...had to pick myself up from the ground. They should try reading the table and do the math). Should be a interesting run in to the end of the season.

Keep it up lads!!!

A mention for Pat I think who was outstanding yesterday, won everything in the air and on the ground that came his way

Not a great game to watch although the second half was better than the first. Cannot remember Mel having to make a save in the game.

It was a strange game really. Beforehand you would have said it was a game that both teams needed to win, yet Tonbridge showed no ambition whatsoever and appeared to be going for the 0-0.

We were better than them and deserved to win. Playing like that at home they deserve to be relegated. I agree Pat was great for us. I felt our best momemts all came when we tried to pass it around, our second goal being a good example of that. We were patient, stuck at it, and ground out the result against a poor, negative team. that is to our credit. I still feel we can improve on this if we can maintain our effort consistently over the 90 minutes but let's face it at this stage it's only the result that counts.

Well Done

Let's hope we have a Good Friday!!

Not a bad day all round, although it would have been nice to see Yeading drop a few points. Now just got to make sure we get 6 points next weekend. Also I'll be keping my fingers crossed for a 0-0 in the Boretree vs Yeading game!

In a way it was pretty typical of what we can expect for the rest of the season - Tonbridge set out to frustrate us and pack the midfield with their forwards playing very deep - when they pumped balls forward their main striker was normally just getting over the half way line...

We showed plenty of concentration and perserverance to stick to the plan, and when we got the ball down and passed it about we were miles better than them. Agree with Rod that Pat was superb at centre back, and for me Macca looks happier at CB than on the right, although it does pose something of a selection dilemma with Trotty in the mix as well.

Mel did well when called upon, but it was only a bit of a scrap at his near post late on that he had to do anything tricky, and he did the business. Forbe3s did well early on, but faded a bit towards the end and probably isn't fully fit.

Worth mentioning that we had a number of key players out-

Nathan Elder (Thigh Strain)

Robin Trott (Brother's wedding)

Keiran Gallagher (Thigh - might be back for the weekend)

Paul Gothard (Ankle still a couple of weeks away)

and of course Danny Hockton

Certainly the last 4 there are 4 of our most experienced players so well done the lads for getting a good result.

Agree that Pat did well. I thought Forbes was inconsistent, but some of his stuff was excellent.

Mel had almost nothing to do so i cant really judge him (first time ive seen him play), although he did have my heart beating a bit faster a few times when he was roaming out of his area. Is he normally that, er..., eccentric?

Fair summary above.

Linesman in second half was a disgrace and wasn't backward in make commnets back.

In addition to the commnets on players above, I thought Leon Hunter was back to his best after a couple of quite matches, Matt Game played well on the right and Ross was very lively when he came on and deserved a goal.

It's nice to have good performances but I think it's now more important to get the points.

Can't add much to the comments above, except to give a word of praise to Paul Armstrong who (again) showed his quality and commitment on a nasty bumpy, boobly slope of a pitch. Agree that Mel, Pat, Leon and Forbes all put in good work, but how about some credit for Nathan ? No, not our Mr Elder but my little lad who managed two laps of the pitch in his socks (he refuses to accept that shoes are for walking in...), quickly picked up the habit of the Ricay fans around us of clapping wildly every time we did something special and best of all laughed loudly each time the home "nutter" alongside us went ballistic at his team and the officials for being "poor". Four away games now and Nathan's yet to see us lose in his entire 16 months of being a Ricay boy!!!
