Guest
What a complete over reaction. I was behind the goal next to the Canvey supporters and would describe the incident as banter and a bit of handbags, didn’t expect to see one message on this forum dedicated to the incident let alone an entire thread. I would hazard a guess that there were worse incidents at every other league and most other conference games in the country yesterday so let’s not over react eh. To be honest I found the incident quite humorous, nothing serious happened so what is the fuss about?

In general this is true, but one of the main ringleaders must have been about 40 and had a Fleet shirt on. As Harry says, the people (and some of them regular attendees) who made a swift move over to the segregation tape when the exclusion zone was extended should be ashamed of themselves.
John@TheFleet
The "choir", Plough End or whatever you want to call us moved behind the goal in the second half for a number of reasons. 1. Our terrace is shut! 2. To get a decent view because the Stonebridge Road terrace is awful. 3. To share some banter with Canvey, get some decent atmosphere going and get behind our team. 4. To get away from the utter drivel spewing out from one or two individuals near the halfway line. Note the word 'individuals', not halfway line as a collective. FleetFanatic
When the Plough end was open, didn't the away support normally get ALL of the Swanscombe end? In other words, it wasn't possible to stand on the open terrace. Oh and against Scarborough, it rained, snowed, rained, snowed - no thanks. BTW, 2nd half, Jimmy, Ian & myself were at the Swanscombe end in amongst the anti-Canvey chanters. To be honest, most of it was harmless banter. Whilst not participating in the chanting, I couldn't really see it being too much of a problem. The one thing obvious, as others have already pointed out, is that there were people there who I can't recall seeing there very often. A good thing? I doubt it as I don't expect they'll be there for our next home game. The way I look at it, we have 2 types of supporter right now. There are those (arguably they are the ones more interested in the football) for which the season's highlights include matches against the 'bigger' clubs such as Carlisle, York, etc..... and there are those (arguably those who don't travel to away games and are considered to be mainly the Chav element) for which the highlight was yesterday against Canvey. Guest
Sort of agree with what you saying FF. As I’ve said I was behind the goal and from where I was standing the comments aimed at Canvey fans seemed like harmless banter to me. Ok there was gesturing from both sets of supporters but realistically if either sets of fans had wanted to break through the segregation and attack the opposition fans it would have been relatively easy to do so, with the handful of stewards being powerless to stop it. Ok, there were a few chavs there but who cares? They didn’t do anything wrong whatsoever and not a punch was thrown in anger so lets no blow the situation out of proportion. As far as I’m concerned they behaved themselves and are as welcome as anyone. The bottom line is that if we are going to fend of any sort of challenge from Gillingham then we need to increase attendance significantly. We’re not in a situation to turn new supporters away and if we do they’ll only watch Gills should they relocate. People are surprised about a couple of dozen extra lads coming to watch us play Canvey then imagine the turnout against Dartford. Trust me, that’s the big one. If we played them in a competitive fixture then the numbers would swell to well over 150 of the more ‘excitable’ fans, not the twenty or so yesterday. Hempstead Gaz
I make 90% of home games, but very few away games. The reason - I work 6-2 shift most Saturdays. Not may away games in within 1 hour of Chatham. Therefore I am by Darrens reckoning somewhere between the two.
FleetFanatic
Ah but I did comment on how the more undesirable element probably won't be at the next game! I trust you will be? I wouldn't worry too much - I did use the word 'arguably' & I miss games home and away! Whether I attend Friday's game or not depends on whether I can nip away from work in the middle of the night! If not, I probably won't be going to Witton. Monday's game won't be a problem. Wish I had a pound for every time someone has called Jeff King fat or asked me "where's my caravan?" The bit I found rather sad was a 10 year old feeling a little brave and walking upto the blue band and shouting "Wots the score you Pr*cks?" after your first goal - some will find that amusing but to me its a reflection of society and what has become acceptable or the norm. I hope my kids have values and do not feel the need to act like that when I'm not around. UP FLEET
The thing is as well, if the blue band had'nt of been there and everyone was mingelling, the same little sh1ts wouldn't have said a word. you would hope His parents would be very saddened to see their son acting in such a way, but then again i doubt it.
