Wealdstone match thread

Just going from what various people have said, am I to assume that the general consensus is that playing on a Friday was bad? Gary mentioned that less Slough fans travelled than would usually on a Saturday. I was one of them, unable to make it due to other commitments, and I'm sure I wasn't the only 'regular' who was absent. But I hear the crowd was given as 444 which sounds good compared to Wealdstone's normal attendances.

On another note, Gary also mentioned that a few players turned up late - again, to do with playing Friday night? And since Daly was only a sub, was he one of them?

No spitting just verble. After foul players squared up, bit of mouthing off by both players.Hodgey backed off(better cautioned than red carded)stones player then threw a good right hander (most continentals would have hit the deck before it connected).

I was a few yards left of the Slough bench with Stones supporters-they told their player what an idiot he was and deserved his red card

I was standing the kennel side with Ray Copper and a neutral.

You could hear the connection of Hodgeys boot on Beckfords, A quite cynical foul a definite yellow. Again as the thread above said about Hodgey, Beckford could of rolled around and tried to get him sent off. Unfortunately he took the alternative option and confronted him.

No doubt about the sending off a clear punch and he had to go, but a few questions to ponder.

1. If the ref knew he was going to send him off, why move the two players to the centre of the pitch, away from the tunnel?

2. The neutral with us said he thought Hodge had spat, his comment without any prompting from anyone else in the ground and prior to the ref dealing with the situation.

3. Beckford was indicating to the ref the top part of his arm. Why? maybe showing where he was spat at.

4.Could the ref have consulted his linesman if there was an allegation of something he did not see.

All in all will either player learn, assuming Hodge did what was alleged. Fair result in the end either side could have nicked it towards the end, but feel you should have won against ten men but did not move the ball quick enough and really penetrate.

Considering the other posssible sending off, he could of gone but it was pushing rather than anything else, but he did seem to be walking a tightrope after having a few beers! Very pleased when he was subed, after your two was a little theatrical when challanged.

Good luck for the rest of the season and with a new ground, it was good to see a large following and no hassle.

Thought we should have capitalised on the dreadful Wealdstone defending in the first half...second half - Wealdstone the better side so a draw fair, but the really bobbly pitch didn't help our passing game.

Good turn out and i'm all for trying out different nights, but a Friday night i reckon is only ok for local derbies...we apparently only had 8 players with ten minutes to go which is why Parkin got a game (and played really well). Steve Daleys car broke down and Hodge was on his way to Aylesbury!

Thought there was a good atmosphere as well, Wealdstone are well supported and the got behind their team in the second half, and the acoustics in the place are great, you could really make something of that Edgware ground...good luck with their move home next season. Think they have been 14 years homeless, is that a record? Gives us something to ponder!

From their mailing list:

"I spoke to a couple of players in the pub after the game and they were

extremely pissed of with Jermaine's reaction and also one of them said he

was definately NOT spat at."

Also, it is well documented that Wealdstone are a well supported club at this level. It's all fair and well turning up in numbers as we do, but we don't make half the noise they did last night when they tried. Something else of theirs to aspire to.

Which is because when we do try and make a noise there's only a dozen of us doing it. It's all very well having 150 fans with us but if loads of them stand at the side and do little more than raise the odd eyebrow, it's hardly going to inspire the team.

Remember Hemel away when we were all at one end, under a cover, and ALL singing? That was superb but hasn't really been repeated since.

Gary, i think our obsession with getting behind the goal doesn't help. There was a much better view from the sidelines, and in the second half if we'd have all gone under the stand we would have made more noise - and you get a better view of the game.

Was 444 better than their average? if you take away the 70-80 Slough supporters it's still a good gate for a London club.

Their average is 292 before the match last night, so was a good 150 up on that. About 100 Slough, 20-30 groundhoppers.

As for the atmosphere, it went to prove last night that we don't all need to be together to get the signing going. They had people chanting behind the goal AND down the side, sometime individually, sometimes together. The more voices we have getting behind the team the better surely? Regardless of where they are standing.

Fair point, but singing does sound better undercover - they had some good hecklers as well, in answer to 'Are You Jarvis in disguise'someone shouted, 'no - he can speak...'(sounded funny last night anyway)...

Mind you BFR's cry to 'kick stupidity out of football' might have some way to go...

right off to see St.Francis Rangers play..they merged with another club two seasons ago and attendances have rocketed to 50...

hope this doesn't make me a groundhopper...

Well 1 chair is broken as we found out today.

Plus a picture frame.

Perhaps we can fix the 'pool table slope'

Should take up the £5k or so we are hoping to spend on it

I personally did not like the Friday night kick off. I hate Saturday's without football. It seems it turned out pretty well for the Stones with that crowd though.
