ground grading

He used to play for Sawbo when we first started in the ESL back in 1992...and he was bald too! What must his parents have been thinking of? Still I knew a bloke called Jeff Tyler who called his daughter Ruth and knew a Teresa Green many moons ago.

And drifting back on tack, I think for the Townies there is a little matter of finishin above Ramlbers or Abbey yet before you even think about ground grading...

Thumbs up for ground By Paul Wreyford

Enfield Town are on course for promotion on and off the pitch.

A ground-grading inspection team visited Goldsdown Road, the club's current home, this week and appears to have given the thumbs up, should they win promotion from the Eastway Essex Senior League.

Club spokesman Ciaran Glennon said: "On Monday, the ground-grading inspection team indicated that all seemed well and they would be giving a favourable recommendation to the appropriate FA committee.

"There are no plans for a return visit. This is good news for all associated with the club, and thanks to the hard work put in by the club's officials and supporters."

Town will need to finish top to stand a chance of gaining promotion. They are currently second, but with games in hand over leaders Burnham.

ground grading is more than just having the facilities, IF a club then

wins their league

wins their play off

choose to go up (i.e. AFC Sudbury)

It is about making the ground a safer and more pleasent place for supporters to come along and watch football

whatever league we are in next season, and yes it may be the ESL, we have a better ground now than we did 12 months ago, that is progress.

It would appear from elsewhere that Abbey have a way to go. Still, probably worth getting an official line of what needs to be done, although as things change year on year it won't be a very reliable benchmark. Maybe just a device for hanging onto players?

Perhaps they could ask for a refund of their fee?

I was told during our inspection this afternoon that only two clubs in the whole country have passed their inspections at the first time of asking. They wouldn't say who those clubs were, though.

Well why can't town be one of the teams then?
