After Tuesday...

Recommended Posts

Reading all the posts that have appeared here since Tuesday, I cant help feeling that whilst I agree with the majority that are totally cheesed off with the way the Fleet allowed Stortford to win, you should realise that Tuesday's game for the neutral must have been an absolute cracker!

From my position in the commentary box, theres one thing that people have overlooked and that is the "performance" of the referee! I dont think that I've seen a worse performance by the man in the middle and for that matter the assistants all season long! Lets face it, whilst I cant disagree (by the letter of the law with either Fleet dismissals) the point must surely be made that Jay Saunders committed two fouls in the whole game - the second of which you see every week go unpunished - and was booked twice, whilst the Stortford left back was booked in the first minute of the second half and then proceeded for the next 80 minutes to kick lumps out of anything in a red shirt, and mouth off to an assistant every time a foul was given against him. Then there was the running war between the Stortford skipper in midfield and Steve McKimm which only began after their no. 11 ridiculously kicked Steve as he was heading for the Fleet bench! And then of course there were the two central defenders that were intent on kicking Manny, Roy and Pinno half way around North Kent.

Fine going forward the Stortford strikers were terrific, as their pace will do for a lot of defenders, although I do feel that the criticism thats been levelled at Graham Porter is unfair as without him on three or four occasions, Morrison and Abrahams would surely have extended Wilko.

Which brings me to another point whereby all Fleet fans should be over the moon at having two such keepers on the clubs books, as I know many clubs whose fans would love to have a keeper of the quality of Wilko in their team...

Anyway lets face facts THE FLEET NEED EVERYONE BEHIND THEM ON SATURDAY more than ever before. Liam Daish said to me afterwards that it would take a while to get over Tuesday. Whilst I know that feeling only too well, its time now that everyone who goes to the Canvey game on Saturday must get behind the team...

In the words of the "Great Delia" - LETS BE HAVING YOU!!!

Whilst I agree about the performance of the referee I must say I don't agree about your comments on the left back. On no ocassion did he, or has he ever kicked lumps out of opponents! Yes, I might be biased as I'm related to him but I never known him EVER not to try and get the ball. The referee booked him for his first challenge in the first half, told him to stand up when he was being spoken to, (he was pulling his socks up at the time). The next challenge that waas awarded a foul, he actually played and won the ball. Now come on, over the 2 games, NOBODY can say it was a dirty game by either sides. FYI, it was the same referee that Daggers had against Tamwoth this month I believe. 2 reds and about 10 yellows in that game so I'm told. Come on Gravesend, you had it, lost concentration at TWO vital moments and lost it.

Well, I can, since he didn't go by the letter of the law, booking Jay twice for what he could only have construed as two professional fouls (i.e. two straight reds). Obviously, if either was a foul (of which I couldn't be sure), then Jay deserved to go, but it would be nice if the referee actually applied the LOAF correctly.
