Have read all the posts so far on last night....

Recommended Posts

The bottom line is we were leading both games in the 92nd minute and won neither.

We have to learn how to win these close games.

Last night, just after our second goal, Matt Lovell got the ball on the left wing and instead of running for the corner to wind down the clock chose to cross the ball into their area. They won possession and broke forward and scored!

I don't blame Matt for the goal but we need to learn that we shouldn't just look to our defenders to protect a lead.

Actually FF, I care about the Canvey game on Saturday!!!

Don't think i'd like to have to rely on you in the trenches !! The first battle that didn't go our way, you'd be off....instead of remaining to complete the war !!!( avoiding death permitting of course !)

You'll be there Saturday...I know it !

Cheers,

Sorry. You misinterpreted my comments.
Of course I'll be there.

What I meant is that it isn't a big match.

Last night was THE big match.
The season's over, nothing left to play for.

(Except maybe Kent pride in the Kent Senior Cup!)

Slarti that comment has made my day. Made me feel a lot better. Think of the high last season when we beat Exeter on pens, it was just we were on the receiving end of something similar last night. These things happen. It's just more gutting because that trophy was ours to win. It sounds like supporting England too.

If we going to persist on playing the way we are, and continually get caught out with pace, then we have to play with a sweeper. How can our manager with his vast defensive experience, allow us to be so defensively inept and naive? Needs to sort it out in the summmer, and bring in a few of his own personnel. Feel we've been defensively weak for a long time now, is it the players aren't good enough or is it the system.

Ah Robert.......and I assume you have managed a team at a higher level ? It's a game of opinions Brian and, as such, you are entitled to yours, as am I....but....give Liam a bit of time.Yes it was gutting last night, I know that, you know that, Liam knows that. I suspect that we may see a few changes of playing personnel during the summer.......

Cheers,

It'd be nice to make sure relegation is mathematically avoided as soon as possible, though.

I don't see why, but I'd be happily proved wrong.

All this stuff about a mass cull of players seems to have originated from one match. Of course changes will be made over the summer, but I don't see why players like Conkers and Manny are suddenly considered rubbish.

And Col, if you're going to have a go at Mr. Daish, at least have the courtesy to spell his name correctly.

Back to FF original point of us being 'tactically naive' i tend to agree. I think BS were alot more professional in alot of ways. When we went 2-1 up with a couple of minutes left we didn't keep a cool head,we lost the ball cheaply and didn't run down the clock, allowing them back in the game. However when they went 3-2 up they calmly held onto the ball, not letting us in the game, after all,if you don't have the ball you can't score. They also brought on a few subs, wasting time.

Another point, after about 20minutes we could have been quite easily about 4-0 down,if i remember rightly wilko made 3 brilliant saves and they hit the post..?

Well done BS,and good luck in the next round.

Ah - just thinking what it would be like to have a tighter defence - luxury. What a dream to have Moore & Shearer playing in the current team (& the threat at set pieces - very little now). Just thinking about all those who were moaning that Moore was`nt playing that well at start of season(were in top 5 at time). I know who I`d rather have !

Well, if you want us to bring back Moore and play even more long-ball football than we do already, that's your choice.

I take the point about the threat from set pieces though.

S**T I find myself agreeing with an anon... must be coming down with something..!!

I would of preffered to place Shearer and Moore out on loan with immediate 'call back' status attached. Shearer had many conflicts with AF, so his future was decided yonks ago.. Could of stayed at GNFC under Liam and probably done a good job for us.. shame, wish we had foresight..!!

I rated Chris Moore, he was good in the air (due to his size) and he also had excellent pace for a big lad... and a couple of goalius..!!

Doubt when AF agreed to let either of them go did he consider what an impact our defencive line would suffer, especially as the new defenders are so injury stricken..!!!

Yet the same point comes back again, were Shearer and Moore actually THAT good? They have been lauded, almost deified, since their departure but I certainly can't remember the glory days many of you seem to hark back to. The 'Chris Moore Sidefoot Hoof to No one' became the stuff of legend in our household and that, coupled with Lee Shearer's seeming inability to put in consistent performances, suggests to me that we really don't miss them as much as some people suggest.

Sorry Bernard - just look at the stats, they speak for themselves & not just this season.

When Shearer usurped the Dukes last season it was the start of our "good period". People tend to get whether a player is good confused with how they play in a system. Shearer & Moore were right for us & probably would still be. Both players had limitations but you NEVER heard people moaning at them like you get with the present incumbants.

Sorry Bernard. If you must know I`m a lifelong supporter, sponsor, shareholder, trust member etc. I`ve seen over 1500 Fleet games. Don`t like being called rat boy - there was no need for that. If you have a problem with me I`m quite willing to discuss it with you. I don`t see a problem with remaining anon.

Just the sort of thing that would of killed time on Tuesday for our win... I rated him, and now he is a rock for Welling, our loss...!!
