Wouldn't be too difficult. Whilst the IP address gives some of the game away, there's an easy enough way to prove it back to an individual if required.

Do tell Gary!! I always thought that it's against the privacy of information act, to divulge individuals addresses, unless a court order was obtained ??

Uriah, it's easy enough to do, but not usually required. We'd approach the company in question with the relevant information and leave it up to them. I'm sure they'd be none too happy with their employees wasting time on non-business related forums.

I'm sure you can get their internet provider I.e Bt, Wandoo, Aol etc to cut them off if needs be

That was not my original point, I was saying I don't think they would give out the persons name or address.

You are correct in your thinking in that they would not divulge any information. They would also not act any complaint unless it was libelous, malicious or obscene. From what I have seen non of these apply.

On a technical note you are correct in that the provided issues an IP address on conection. But if the IP address is static then this does not apply. Big IT companies and corporates have open gateways. The only way they could tell who posted anything would be if they keylogged their internal systems. 99% of companies do not do this at it infringes various rights Laws. Most companies limit internet use to sites that do not contain certain keywords.

The easiest way to solve this is to ban the IP address from access to the site. But if the IP is corporate then banning that address is a sticky wicket.

Hope this helps.
