ETFC 1 Northwood 2 (aet)

Recommended Posts

What Northwood actually had the temerity to score from TWO corners, heavens above. So what happens when you miss three one on ones against an ESL side, does it then become affordable? It would be interesting to know if you have ever been VERY lucky to win a game in your short exsistence.

Hey Stockport, don't 'dis' the ESL too soon old chum, because with Portway back for t' (a Northernism, I am sure you will understand) Ramblers and Abbey back on form, could be another long drawn-out year in the ESL Pub League for the Townies.

Yes, basically. Against teams like Romford we know we would have further opportunities to wrap the game up whereas against teams from the Ryman Premier that is not the case.

As already mentioned, it was a good game that could have gone either way. It was refreshing to see both teams play football rather than people being kicked up in the air.

Congratulations must go to Frank and Roy on an excellent playing surface. Even after the adverse weather the pitch is in immaculate condition and better than some League grounds judging by recent TV pictures.

excuses as normal

I don't see Lovely Stuff's post as excuses. He commented that we missed some good chances. If you miss too many chances then you will invariably lose.

although I was not at the game the comments from Town fans who were there seem pretty fair.

Exactly Mr H.

"We lost because the ref was crap" = Excuse

"We missed good chances" = Reason

As it happens the ref was crap but that isn't why we lost. We lost because we failed to defend properly at two corners and missed chances to undo the damage at the other end.

To be fair. The first corner they scored from, came from a Northwood forward volleying the ball out of the ground, and one Northwood player very optimistically shouted 'corner' and it was given...Does that sound like an excuse, maybe, but that what happened.

Regarding the state of the pitch. The grass coverage on it is superb at present and the ground team have worked wonders on it,but i'm afraid (without a decent watering system) we remain martyr's to the elements. What has helped us this season has been regular rain.We have now gone a week without rain and the pitch last night was very bobbley and bouncy (not helped by the grass being cut very short). This is to take nothing away from Roy and Frank, who have by and large done a wonderful job transforming the surface this season.Something that has seen out home league record improve conciderably.
